Hi! I'm Nora. I post much more at @[email protected].
Kagi Smallweb is polluted with many very bad AI-focused blog posts, but I've already discovered several delightful podcasts through it, so that's nice.

I grew up coding on a hand-me-down laptop. My whole family uses used PCs, most <$300. I selfhost everything I can. I've spent the last 10 years learning to write less, better code.

And you're trying to pitch me on paying $200 a month to use a proprietary system to produce more, worse code? Come on.

Cryptography folks, I want your opinion: what is the most future-proof way to do private key based signing of relatively small documents/text files? Ideally, I'd like it to have at least acceptable support in both Python and JavaScript.

Thanks in advance. Boosts welcome.

fwiw I don't think it is possible to build genAI in such a way that it benefits workers rather than capital because it is fundamentally based on non consensual extraction of labour to get going. what would it actually mean for the workers to own the means of production here

The beautiful thing about Hollow Knight is that I can get really mad about how precise boss mechanics are instead of getting really mad at like, actual things in the world. And then I put the controller down and I feel better

wrote a quick guide to creating a did:web atproto PDS account using goat.

this isn't something I recommend for folks in most cases (did:plc is great!), but I think it is important on principle, and we should test and document it better.

This is a hastily-written guide to creating a did:web atproto account. You'll need: familiarity with command line tools a domain name and web server you control, for the did:web a handle domain na...

I find it hard to know how to interact here, knowing that anyone can see not just what I post but who I follow and what I like.

Is someone going to jump down my throat for liking the wrong thing? Is deleting/unliking enough, or do people maintain archives of PDS contents?

It's new and odd.

My account has been un-"burned" by manual intervention from @bnewbold.net - for which, thanks! I hope the attention I generated with my experience will lead to better outcomes for other users with a similar problem.

Let's hope for a truly decentralized ATProto!
