When the narrative that's dominating partisan discourse runs up against facts too glaring to deny, there ensues an awkward interstitial in which the discourse quiets as partisans grasp for a new narrative around which to coalesce. I suspect we'll soon be hearing a lot about how video games are bad.

Note to editors and producers: If an executive order demands action that is illegal or outside of the president’s authority, then you should not describe it as ordering something. You should say it seeks to achieve some outcome and then note it is illegal or beyond the power of the president.

What you have to understand about Pete Hegseth copying and pasting war plans into Signal is that it almost certainly means he’s got classified documents on his personal UNSECURE devices. Signal isn't on a secure device...are our war plans on his personal devices? @jeffreygoldberg.bsky.social

Due process is not some courtesy we extend to criminals. Due process is the way we know who actually is a criminal to start with.

Unless you want to just grant the government 100% blind faith that they’ll never make any mistakes and never abuse their power ever.
KARL: Do they have any due process at all?

HOMAN: Due process -- what was Laken Riley's due process?

(That's a "no")

But it's not exclusive to the privileged. In my experience, intolerance for discomfort, complexity, or just bad news is extremely widespread in the U.S. We're gonna have to get over that if we're going to build a better social contract and a world in which everyone gets to have a bit more comfort.
