Lovely New Year’s Day walk along the Ribble at Hurst Green, but who on on thought covering a riverside public footpath with astroturf was a good idea🙄 @shitlawns.bsky.social

Saw 30 or so Fieldfares fly through the garden just before sunset and land in some willows about 100m away. Thinking they might be looking for a roost I got the thermal out watched them gradually move into the adjacent conifers where they settled down around 15 mins after sunset. #thermalbirding

I braved the hordes of dogs and their owners for high-tide at Rossall Point, Lancashire hoping for a few year-ticks - Purple Sandpiper in particular. Despite the relentless disturbance the birds didn't disappoint.

An early kick-off in the football left enough daylight to nip over to Clowbridge Reservoir, for the Red-necked Grebe, which showed beautifully. #eloc, #,eastlancsbirding #ukbirding, #birds

I was delighted to see this Whimbrel in La Gomera yesterday. I wonder what its story is? Has it wintered here or is it working its way back north from the African coast further south? I'll be looking forward to seeing them in late April on my patch back home on their way to breed in Iceland. #birds
