I now know what "gubbins" are, so today is already a success

Some of my favorite budget amendment proposals from our At Large councilperson @paradyatlarge.bsky.social

This is pretty awesome! @burleyzack.bsky.social

Was using the S Broadway lane today and still think about how big a miss this was from the bond. So happy to see this considered!

I'm currently riding towards a wall of meetings and people I don't want to interact with but at least I got to stop here for a minute

Yep! Total misfire from the mayor
nosquish.bsky.social
He has questioned why CDOT is doing BRT on Federal

He has directed DOTI to remove portions of protected bike lanes

He neutered the budget that could make real change in Vision Zero

There is more concern about what sports teams get stadiums

The mayor does not understand Vision Zero

This is a shock to no one who has been paying attention. Asking drivers to slow down is quite possibly the worse way to message this. Changes are coming to Denver's streets but behind the scenes the mayor is far more worried about being seen as anti-car

That's a nice bike lane

Has it been that long!?

You have to hand it to them. They are consistent.

Thank you to everyone that came out to our DBL meetup tonight! Shout out to our special guest @activetowns.bsky.social for stopping by while he is town.

Basically they hate any change. They claim it will be more dangerous, which is silly.

The NIMBYs don't want traffic circles in their neighborhood again and they painted over the construction lines. However I have a suggestion...

It's nice to see designers finally making a real contrast between bike lane and sidewalk. Still a bit subdued but much better than the grey on grey in front of places like the Populus Hotel (which is a real weak choice)

I'm sure they ran into private land. At this point it belongs to the busted warehouse but still pretty standard for Denver bike lanes

Where the Bike Lane Ends

Car culture thrives on all-or-nothing thinking.

Dedicate some part of the road to bikes? “You’re basically banning cars.”

Safer speeds? “Oh yeah let’s all travel 5 km/h.”

It’s like asking a child to clean their room and they respond dramatically “so you’re kicking me out? to live on the street?”.

Some politicians will say out loud that road deaths are the cost of doing business. MPP Ric Breese at the Bill 212 committee meeting said that we would need to slow cars to 5km/h to avoid all deaths, and of course we can't do that, so "there occasionally will be injuries".

Violent crime is more rare, shocking, headline-grabbing. We treat it as an intolerable aberration from the norm. And we should! But that suggests that road deaths and injuries are the norm and are therefore tolerable. No politician will say that out loud, but watch what they prioritize.

I know three of these amazing people and their patience & dedication is incredible

Driver entitlement isn't new but @goingdutchdenver.bsky.social's use of cones should show DOTs the best way to enforce good driving is with barriers that stop bad driving without debate

Angry or inattentive drivers pose big risks around schools, but this DPS fleet juggles busy intersections and gaggles of kids twice a day.
