The funniest part of the new tariffs is they’ve removed the de minimis exemption for small packages, even from Canada. If a mom sends a birthday gift from Windsor to Detroit they’ve gotta pay 25% tariffs on it lol. Just unimaginable stupidity.

The NY Post’s anti-congestion pricing propaganda war gets more absurd by the day.

for context, a delivery truck pays a $21.60 charge

amortized across an entire truckload of beer that’s approximately $0.0001 per can

and that’s before even factoring in more efficient deliveries due to less traffic

this is dumb in many ways but I am sick and tired of the talking point that economic growth is “concentrated in the coastal cities” when we’ve had ~5 years of sunbelt cities with high housing production being economic winners while big coastal cities fall behind because they’re housing constrained
What I would've rebutted in this ending paragraph is that no society, even the USSR, abolished the housing market. As @unlearnecon.bsky.social argues, it's a waste trying to abolish markets rather than expanding public capacity. If you want to focus on that, good but its not impeded by zoning reform

If the government should incentivize any particular type of housing development, it should be family-oriented apartments and townhomes in our urban cores.

My wife made this interesting comparison. Joe Biden lied about not pardoning Hunter. That directly affected one person, Hunter. Trump lied about not knowing anything about Project 2025, that affects tens of millions of people. Which will get more media attention?
the frenzy over the hunter biden pardon is a good reminder that the press knows how to make something a scandal and has decided that nothing trump does is truly deserving of that treatment

After the 2024 elections, 54.7% of Americans will have a Democratic governor, and 45.3% will have a Republican.

New York, New Jersey, Virginia, Georgia, Arizona, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania will be critical battlegrounds for deciding majority control in 2025/26.

The temporary saftey net enacting by Biden during covid, followed by its abrupt withdrawal, is fast becoming the best explanation of the 'vibecession' out there. Depressingly, it shows once again that Democrats love to shoot themselves in the foot.

Revisiting Economic Data – 'Vibecession’
Economic data shows the economy is doing well, but people think otherwise. Maybe we’re looking at the wrong data points.

Would you still be in support of price ceilings with your pharma plan?
Many people have the idea that we need government intervention to bring the price of drugs DOWN. The reality is that government intervention is what makes the price of drugs high in the first place. Few people seem to recognize this obvious fact.

We currently spend about $650 billion a year on pharmaceutical products. The vast majority is on patent protected drugs. Prices fall more than 90% when they are fully exposed to generic competition
@deanbaker13.bsky.social I was interested about your publicly funded pharma idea. Where does the savings estimate come from though?

I've heard people saying that Trump would exempt Canadian oil from his 25% import tax. Unless Trudeau has taken the dumber than a rock pledge, he will simply counter by imposing a 25% export tax (or higher). Some folks assume that our allies/enemies have no ability to do anything

Is there a movement to build more cities? I feel like this could be a perfect opportunity. I have heard both Vance and Harris mention using federal land. We could build our dream cities this way, lmk the cons to this, btw.

It is amazing to me how few people realize that drugs are actually cheap to manufacture or distribute. They think that when a drug company charges $50k for a year's dosage that it actually costs the company something like that to get them the drugs.
The payoffs would be even greater if everything was fully open-source and the funding was carried through to the drug development and approval phase. Then drugs would be cheap and we could save $500 billion a year ($4k per family).

He’s not a stable genius.

He’s an idiot, folks.
🚨 BREAKING: Trump just announced he will be imposing 25% tariffs on ALL Canadian and Mexican imports on day 1.
