New from me: an essay on the House UnAmerican Activities Committee, and its remarkable 30 year history of witch hunts & blacklists.

It chronicles the progression of how industries & academia went from capitulation to defiance,& what we can take from that today

American political theater isn't new.
The House Un-American Activities Committee operated for decades— until targets learned to fight back.

I hear and see your concerns. Over the weekend, a couple users hosted on Blacksky's PDS were banned from the Bluesky app and thus the Bluesky API servers. This was a weakness of our system I've been aware of and hoped we had more time to address before any kind of public incident. 1/11

It’s hard to describe the level of potential constitutional crisis here.

The 2020 Census was a fraud. The Biden admin used a shady "privacy" formula that scrambled the data and miscounted 14 states.
It included illegal immigrants and handed
Democrats extra seats. Americans deserve a fair count and l'm fighting to fix it.

My new op-ed with @lkfazio.bsky.social:

Trump sent a 'compact' to our universities. They should reject this devil's bargain.
Any institution that yields to these broad and intrusive demands would forever be subservient to the whims of the government.

That helpful article by @mmasnick.bsky.social breaks down some of the CISA nonsense. But Ted lies ab a lot more.

Like the bs claim that the Election Integrity Partnership was needed to *secretly* “switchboard” — when CISA clearly had & was using its own direct contacts for multiple years prior!🤔

Been sayin’ it. Who was president when the story of Hunter Biden’s laptop got blocked for ~48 hours? Who was president during the 2020 election? Who was president in early COVID?

We are gonna have an entire stupid hearing about this on Wednesday.

That one is a pretty generic cherry tomato, determinate. Since the hydroponic system best accommodates things up to 4’ tall I usually do cherry tomatoes. I get the microdwarf ones sometimes because they are very dense.

I really like mine. We have outdoor too, with a high fence. It’s tough. I lost a bunch of squash to rabbits until the vines were long enough to trellis.

Not sure why it thinks I want this! When it’s tech and public health niches it’s at least related to what I post. I don’t follow anyone who’s really out there creating Taylor Swift content.

My whole Threads feed is Takes (tedious, tedious takes) on That Album that I will never listen to by an artist I’ve never expressed any interest in. It’s wild to see how quickly that algorithm changes a feed to be about one thing only.

Meaning 2 units; this is an Aerogarden Farm. The one to the right had the shishito pepper I just killed and you can see the bell pepper collapsing to the left lol. You can put plants in all those holes, I normally do 2-3 “big” things but some people go nuts w/ greens. I’ve also seen ppl trellis.
noupside.bsky.social
Tomatoes on the left, eggplant on the right. I have 2 this size and a small countertop one for lettuce.
noupside.bsky.social
It’s an open hydroponic system so they would just be in my house :)
noupside.bsky.social
Aerogarden. My dad built his. I went simple. Honestly I think simple is the way to go.
noupside.bsky.social
I killed every plant, sprayed alcohol on every surface, vacuumed all over, kept everything empty for three months, and then restarted. They are the worst.
noupside.bsky.social
The shishito are enough for a side dish. I usually roast the purple eggplants with pasta, and toss the little green Thai ones into curry. I eat those tomatoes for lunch several days a week. :) I just have to decide what to do with the bell peppers…

The problem with aphids indoors is you can’t just spray them with a power hose or use ladybugs or wasps. I’ve had spider mites before, but aphids are new. Not sure how they got in.
noupside.bsky.social
Since people are asking: I have a hydroponic set up. I post about it every couple of wks. Unfortunately the peppers somehow got aphids, so I killed the Shishito today. The yellow bell pepper doesn’t seem like it’s gonna make it…wilted while I was away on a trip. Might be restarting those units.😒
