I didn't know until we buried my mother, so probably most people here don't know: Jewish cemeteries strongly recommend that you get insurance for the headstone.

Because the cemeteries are so often desecrated, the gravestones smashed.

It's hard to articulate the grief my community, the #LDS / #Mormon community, is experiencing right now. For that act of such hate-fueled violence in Michigan to follow so soon after the death of a prophet who urged all of us to be peacemakers... It's incomprehensible. We are scared and hurting. 1/2

He told me #scrutiny would bring us closer. I was too afraid to ask why it only went one way. Pretty soon, he confiscated my credit and debit cards. "Can't risk overspending like last month," he said with a smile. (It was $2.) After a while, there was nothing left of me for him to take.

I collapse onto the couch and try to rally before the show. My fake lashes feel like weights on my lids. Then, suddenly, I hear the unmistakably crisp crinkle of foil. Could it be? I watch as a perfect roll of sesame oil-scented kimbap emerges, here to #reinvigorate me in my moment of need.

I've sometimes been rewarded by persisting and disappointed by persisting. If there's a good pace and progress and I trust the author, I'll likely stick with it even if I don't fully understand. If the work can only be understood through deep knowledge of elitist, obscure literary references, I DNF

I do wish #SquidGame had cast a trans woman. But given that they did not, I appreciate the care with which the writers and actor Park Sung-hoon handled the role. It shows that he consulted trans women. It shows that he respected the community. He did not mock or make a caricature out of #Hyunju. 2/2

It's been years since I thought about a fictional character as much as #Hyunju from #SquidGame. She is not perfect, but she's fiercely loyal to the people around her and her own humanity in an environment controlled by people who will stop at nothing to extinguish both. 1/2
