Yeah, yeah, #Java 25 sounds great but when is the real problem with Java is going to be addressed? It’s time to accept that Duke as a mascot sucks. It’s not cute, it’s not funny, it’s not charismatic, it’s boring and it’s uninspiring. It’s time to retire it so it can hang out with Clippy.

#Java 10 introduced `var` to infer the type on local variable declarations, which is nice, but then, JVM developers wrote a document with 4 principles and 7 guidelines to explain how to use it because it's not as simple as let or var in other languages. Why bother? just don't add it to the language

"undefined behavior" is insane bc it appears to be one of the most dangerous programming language semantics w the potential to gigafry ur brain but it’s taken by literal turbonormies who want to like "not add runtime checks" and basically get oneshotted by it

Not particularly impressed with full-line autocomplete, at least those based on a local LLM.
It's not just that it gave an incorrect completion, it's that it looked fine at a glance but introduced subtle bugs.
Cue 20 mins tracking down an `all` that was flipped to `any` in the completion.

The reason the #C #programming language doesn’t require any kind of automatic memory management is because it uses braces: { and }
Once code is surrounded with braces, it’s protected from memory leaks.

I’ve used both, #Mastodon and now #Bluesky. Bluesky is user friendly, users just go to a website or download an app and create an account, which is a workflow that regular users already know very well, very low friction. Mastodon is like asking regular users to install Linux on their PCs.

I still see content online using a “phone book” as an example of dictionaries or hash tables. I wonder if new generations that are learning computer #programming had to look up what a phone book is. #computers #software
