Inspired by an eclectic mix of music, w/many go-to genres, no preferred decade (1920s-2020s), & primary focus on music from USA, Japan, UK, Brazil, etc. Interests incl. politics, sports (NBA, WNBA, etc.), media, cinema, #AT40. Chat = OFF.
I cannot let 'Family Affair' by Sly play without offering the highest level of praise for this advanced level of innovation that nevertheless is inviting enough to the music world to have hit #1 on #AT40 Hanging in there at #3 on this 1972/01/08 week.

Not quite the tune that's so nice I wanted to hear it twice ('I'd Like To Teach The World...), but if say, Al Green had wanted to drop a version of 'Drowning In The Sea Of Love' around this time, I'd be good with that. #AT40 And/or Herbie Hancock doing an alternate version of the iconic 'Scorpio'

Although I'm not a 'completist,' I do have a large collection of Bob Dylan CDs/SACDs. I remember 'George Jackson' during this #AT40 period where it charted (1972/01/08), but had to look to see if I had it on CD. Turns out I do have it on the now out-of-print Japanese compilation "Side Tracks."

💿MADITA🎸MADITA (2005)

Innovative debut by Austrian singer/actress Edita Malovčić, the 1st of 4 dropped by her between '05 & '12. Future jazz, downtempo, trip hop, electronica...all of the above & more, marked by strong tunes & vocals!

The long list of iconic Miles albums includes this. MD (tp) w/ Tony Williams (dr), Wayne Shorter (ts), Herbie Hancock or Chick Corea (p/ep) & Ron Carter or Dave Holland (bs). Betty Davis on the cover!

💿HITOMI 'PENNY' TOHYAMA🎸TOKYO FUNK DIVA (1981-1988)

I would have loved these tunes back in the 80's, but there was no "online" to get exposed to them. Now trying to get that lost time back, including via this funky city pop collection!

Convenient to hear the best #AT40 cut of the 1970s first, at #50. Sly & The Family Stone 'Family Affair.' Some of the upcoming 49 tracks will no doubt come close to this level of perfection.

💿FREDERICK KNIGHT🎸I'VE BEEN LONELY FOR SO LONG (1973)

The title cut was a major soul & pop hit in its day, and the musical quality of that gem is sustained throughout the album! The 1st of 4 lps the singer/songwriter/producer cut between '73 & '81.

I'll be on the highway this AM so I hope to hear some of today's #AT40 in the car. I caught a bit of the 3am PST b'cast (no I didn't intend to be awake then). Today is the top 50 of 1979. Wonder if next week will then be the Top 50 of the entire '70s (the 1980/01/05 show)? Happy New Year everyone!

A holiday tune as only Joni could write and perform it, from her 'Blue' album! Merry Christmas however one chooses to spend the day!

His beautiful composition has been performed many times, but this version by Ryuichi is particularly moving: from his final performance, a few months prior to his passing.

The "other" Fab Four showed off their sometimes-underrated singing talents on this a cappella version of a traditional Spanish Christmas carol. Beautifully done, with Mickey Dolenz in the lead!

One of Japan's greatest musical artists (city pop, etc.), created this beautiful, melancholy holiday gem. He recorded it in English, too (as did Pentatonix).

To those #AT40 hashtaggers who celebrate, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Can't tell yet if I'll be free for the next 1-2 weeks of replays. Thanks to @porpster.bsky.social as always for the play-by-play (and still doing double-duty, posting on what I still call Twitter as well as over here)!
December 20, 2025 at 7:26 PM
Reading the David Cassidy love by some #AT40 hashtaggers and I get it. However, although I was only 13, I was hearing 'One Less Bell Too Answer' and wondering to myself, I wonder if I'm too young for HER (Marilyn, of course)! 🤣
December 20, 2025 at 7:14 PM
Why I value the early '70's #AT40 charts so highly in getting valuable pop culture music exposure: no other medium (including FM radio) can comfortably fit in varied, acclaimed artists -- in the dirty 30s no less -- as Elton, Gladys, Led Zeppelin, Neil Y., W. Pickett, Aretha, Supremes, 4 Tops, etc.
December 20, 2025 at 5:44 PM
Not sure why Casey & the #AT40 crew didn't follow the ACTUAL Billboard chart for 1970/12/19, because I was looking forward to some Steve Stills at #39. Maybe they're back in sync now via some classic early Elton at #38 and some fantastic Aretha at #37.
December 20, 2025 at 5:13 PM
Not counting what may show up on the Thursday WOC #AT40 each week, today's the last opportunity to hear a 1970 program until at least July 2026. So I'll be enjoying 1970/12/19 this morning.
