It’s almost as if the Edmonton Journal has a set schedule for publishing these NIMBY grievance articles.

There were several times last year after significant snowfall that residential sidewalks were cleared faster than shared-use paths across the street, and I would always opt for them. Was always careful and stopped for foot traffic, but did catch grief a few times.

I almost wish there was a snowcat-like device that would pack down certain routes.

Obviously it’s always important to yield for pedestrian traffic too!

Just a GoPro (Hero 10 I believe) and handlebar/seat post mount with a low-profile mounting insert. I use it on multiple bikes - it’s served me well!

It is such a nice day for a ride! #yegbike #yeg

This seems to have brought the snow! 😂

"Crashes happen when there's a mismatch between what a street is designed for and how it's actually being used."

There are so many intersections that would benefit from intersection safety devices.

These situations definitely aren't good in dealing with intrusive thoughts of carrying rocks around

There are also painted bike lanes here, but they are probably the worst ones in the city due to road condition. I refuse to ride in them.

I will say that motorists are less likely to overtake me near these, in playground zones where it flashes my speed as around 30. But in other areas, it may as well serve as a high score board

Every road/parking lot crossing requires cyclists to be hyper attentive and anticipate… for survival. If only motorists would extend even a fraction of the same consideration.

Finally, I wish they’d prioritize improving areas with substandard (painted) bike lanes. In some scenarios, using them is more dangerous than not having them at all.

Also, not really a Q, but I would be interested in visualizations of data collected from speed feedback signs in 40/30kmh zones, and what trends it shows. It’s available online but not presented in the most user-friendly way.

I’d be interested in the possibility of roundabouts being considered as a street lab/towards 40 project. Lots of suburban ngbhds built circa 1980-90 have extremely wide intersections/crossing distances that I feel could be made safer with these.

Gotta love the classic passive "struck by SUV" in the title.

Unfortunately, I did not ride the bike with studs today 🙃
