Apparently the only way Vance understands turkey is as an entire bird being cooked. Lunch meat? Turkey bacon? Turkey breasts and roasts? All fake. No one eats those.

That’s what I mean. I think “relatable” has become a catchall that readers use, but that doesn’t adequately describe their experience. Their disinterest could be valid, but is getting delivered in a manner that’s read as invalid.

If a reader doesn’t quite know how to describe this, they may simply blame the disconnect they’re experiencing on relatability.

I think part of this might be that people are bad at explaining what they want. “Relatable” comes off as referring to characters that the reader identifies with, but could also refer to characters that the the reader can comprehend or finds interesting.

What makes the characterization good is how we later see it play out in far more tense situations where it’s more appropriate, such as his compassion leading him to refuse orders and get dismissed in Ishval.

I can’t view Meta as anything but a criminal organization.

There’s plenty of blame to go around for how our politics and culture was turned into a cesspit, but I think it’s fair to say that Meta is uniquely responsible. Between this, the AI sex chat thing, and the rest of their scandals, I’m terrified of what we DON’T know.
