#OtD 17 Feb 1964 a national strike of sugar workers broke out in Guyana demanding union recognition. British firms used African workers to try to break the strike of the mostly Asian workers, which worsened racial tensions in the country. More: stories.workingclasshistory.com/article/8874...

#OtD 16 Feb 1924 200k dock workers in Britain walked out on strike. @UKLabour were in power for the first time and invoked emergency powers to crush the strike. Despite this, the workers held out and won pay increases stories.workingclasshistory.com/article/8775...

Right now @bhamcitycouncil.bsky.social beg the courts for more injunctions to ban effective protest and picketing, this time for persons unknown.

Instead of resolving this dispute, they try to ban protest.

Solidarity is not a crime.

The FiLiA Trade Union Women's Network met today to strategise for 2026. This was followed by a fascinating evening spent with sisters at the Marx Memorial Library, with a tour of their incredible building and an archive workshop on Annie Mills.
