We would be grateful for an opportunity to discuss how the UK Government can help protect children and healthcare workers in Gaza, both today and in future. The UK Government has a responsibility to take all possible steps to help bring an end to this devastating conflict. Today, that call is more urgent than ever. The severe restrictions on humanitarian aid and effects of violence on Gazan children are catastrophic —denying them access to the basic means of survival, including food, clean water, shelter, and medical care-alongside causing injury, psychological trauma and death. We must all uphold the international commitments we have made to protect and promote the rights of children. These rights are not optional-they are fundamental. Every child has the right to survive and thrive, even in the most challenging of circumstances. We therefore call on the UK Government to act by pressing for: • Lifting the near total blockade of food, goods and aid entering Gaza; • An immediate and permanent ceasefire and return of hostages; • The safe, effective and unrestricted delivery of politically and militarily independent humanitarian assistance that matches the scale of the crisis; • Sick children to be allowed to leave Gaza to access treatment in countries who are willing to provide this including within the UK NHS; • An end to hospitals and healthcare workers being targeted by military attacks in direct We are encouraged by recent steps taken by the UK Government and urge continued leadership in ensuring that the international community upholds its obligations under international humanitarian and human rights law. JOINT PRESS STATEMENT WEST BANK, JUNE 2025 DIPLOMATIC STATEMENT ON THE SITUATION IN MUGHAYIR A-DEIR The undersigned diplomatic missions express their strong solidarity with the Palestinian community of Mughayir a-Deir. The community's long-standing residents were recently forced to abandon their homes and belongings due to escalating settler violence and a prevailing climate of impunity. Israeli settlers have established an outpost just metres from the community, which is a clear violation of international law. Mughayir a-Deir was one of the last remaining Palestinian communities in the area. Seven neighbouring communities have already been displaced amid a broader and deeply troubling pattern of violent settler attacks and a lack of protection by the Israeli authorities. We therefore urge the Israeli authorities to dismantle the outpost immediately and to take urgent and effective measures to enable the safe return of the displaced residents. It is imperative that the community is protected from further violence and intimidation. Mughayir a-Deir is not an isolated case—it reflects a broader pattern of displacement in Area C of the West Bank, where a coercive environment marked by repeated settler violence, movement restrictions, land confiscation, demolitions and inadequate access to essential services is making life untenable and pushing communities to leave. Tens of thousands of Palestinians in Area C face a high or imminent risk of forcible transfer. This alarming trend gravely undermines prospects for a just and lasting peace. We call on Israel to respect its obligations under international law, including the prohibition of forcible transfer. We also reaffirm our clear and consistent opposition to settlements, which are illegal under international law. We emphasise Israel's responsibility to protect all Palestinian communities in Area C. Gaza Early this morning, the 60-bed Red Cross Field Hospital in Rafah received a mass casualty influx of 184 patients. This includes nineteen cases who were declared dead upon arrival and eight more who died due to their wounds shortly after. The majority of cases suffered gunshot wounds. Again, all responsive patients said they were trying to reach an assistance distribution site. In the span of one week, staff at the Red Cross Field Hospital have responded to five mass casualty incidents, four of which occurred in the last 96 hours alone. Today's is the highest number of weapon-wounded patients received in a single incident since the establishment of the field hospital over a year ago. The high number of patients far exceeded the number of beds at the hospital and threatened to overwhelm the capacity of its staff to respond. GENEVE ICRC

In the last two decades, the historiography about the British Empire has turned to the study of imperial violence.' Scholars have shown how every aspect of the British Empire enabled and furthered violence, from its governing policies to its legal institutions to the very liberal ideology that undergirded British imperial-ism.? Anticolonial resistance has been as much a feature of these histories as the structural violence of British imperialism, demonstrating how colonised people responded to the violence of empire. This work has enriched our understanding about the inextricability of violence to establishing and maintaining the British Empire, while helping dispel the still-powerful myth that the British Empire was somehow more benevolent and less coercive than other European empires. * However, this historiography also largely interprets the violence of empire according to the colonial divide. It generally positions imperial state agents - along with their corollaries like white settlers and missionaries - as perpetrators, instigators or accessories of illegitimate violence, while colonised people were either victims of empire or anticolonial freedom fighters. This binary of perpetrator and victim, though, cannot sufficiently capture the full range of violence, inhumanity and injustice within the British Empire. In recent weeks I've been no longer able to do so. What we are doing in Gaza now is a war of devastation: indiscriminate, limitless, cruel and criminal killing of civilians. We're not doing this due to loss of control in any specific sector, not due to some disproportionate outburst by some soldiers in some unit. Rather, it's the result of government policy - knowingly, evilly, maliciously, irresponsibly dictated. Yes, Israel is committing war crimes. First, starving out Gaza. On this issue, the position of senior government figures is public and clear. Yes, we've been denying Gazans food, medicine and basic living needs as part of an explicit policy. Netanyahu, typically, is trying to blur the type of orders he's been giving, in order to evade legal and criminal responsibility in due course. But some of his lackeys are saying so outright, in public, even with pride: Yes, we will starve out Gaza. Because all Gazans are Hamas, there's no moral or operational limitation on exterminating them all, over two million people. First, starving out Gaza. On this issue, the position of senior government figures is public and clear. Yes, we've been denying Gazans food, medicine and basic living needs as part of an explicit policy. Netanyahu, typically, is trying to blur the type of orders he's been giving, in order to evade legal and criminal responsibility in due course. We are heartbroken by the death of two of our dear colleagues, Ibrahim Eid and Ahmad Abu Hilal, who were killed in a strike on their home in Khan Younis on the 24th of May, 2025. Ibrahim worked as a Weapon Contamination Officer for the ICRC and Ahmad worked as a Security Guard at the Red Cross Field Hospital in Rafah. We extend our profound condolences to their families, friends, and colleagues. Their loss leaves a deep hole in our hearts. Their killing points to the intolerable civilian death toll in Gaza. The ICRC reiterates its urgent call for a ceasefire and for the respect and protection of civilians, including medical, humanitarian relief, and civil defence personnel. GENEVE ICRC

He says the little amount of food entering the Strip will not reach Hamas: "The bare minimum will reach the population - simply so the world doesn't stop us and accuse us of war crimes." "What will enter in the coming days is very little: a few bakeries distributing pita bread to people, and public kitchens providing one daily serving of cooked food." Civilians, he says, will receive one pita and a plate of food - "that's it". He adds that Israel's military is "destroying everything that remains of the Strip", describing the territory as "one big terror city". He says civilians will be moved out of combat zones as the army leaves "no stone unturned". "The population will reach the south of the Strip, and from there, with God's help, to third countries," he says. As we've been reporting, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said Israel will take control of all of Gaza.

I came across this on Reddit. This pretty much encapsulates what the ‘integration’ fear is
Lived here for 18 years, speak the language, pay taxes, volunteer... but still "not integrated enough" for citizenship because we don't BBQ with the neighbors So my parents (originally from Portugal) have been living in a small village in southern Denmark for the past 18 years. They speak fluent Danish, work full-time, pay taxes, and even volunteer regularly at the local community center. After years of living here legally and checking all the boxes, they finally applied for Danish citizenship. They passed the language test, the history/civics exam, and provided all the documentation. And then... denied. Why? Because the local integration council decided they "haven't demonstrated sufficient integration into Danish society." When asked to elaborate, they said things like: "They're polite, but they don't really socialize with the neighbors." "We haven't seen them at the summer barbecue." "They didn't know the mayor's middle name." Seriously? They've attended every town hall, volunteer weekly at the library, and helped organize two charity drives. But because they're quiet, don't drink beer at the local pub, and tend to keep to themselves socially, they're suddenly not Danish enough? But come on, they even put this up in their window every June 5th (something many of the neighbors didn't even do) The kicker? A guy who moved in 3 years ago from Germany got approved last month. He owns a boat and brings smoked sausage to community events. Thats apparently all it takes.
