Someday, as we ask ‘how did the world let the Holocaust happen?’ so will we ask ‘how did we not stop the genocide of Gaza?’

Will no one stop this slaughter of innocents?

If I see another 'AI will let HCWs treat more patients' claim, I think I'm going to scream.

Burnout rates are already too high. AI should not be used to increase in-hours work density; instead it should reduce the amount of wellness-destroying work we already do out-of-hours. 🤨

Quite.

I think the blame here lies squarely with Starmer's acceptance of the 'culturally hard right' Blue Labour bullshit.

He needs to grow an ethical backbone.

Imagine you're in a weird romcom where Paul Hollywood is your rival. Do you go "let's have a bread baking competition" or do you emphasise your own relative strengths?

Because that in short has been the central problem with the traditional two's approach to anti-immigration voters and Reform UK.

Reform will apparently pledge today that they'd abolish indefinite leave to remain - including retrospectively, to people already granted it. Obviously this is a moral abomination but it is also a practical and legal impossibility.

It’s quite easy to cling to free speech absolutism when you are not the target of a promised ethnic cleansing. The “marketplace of ideas” is a legitimising myth for such politics of annihilation, and “debating” ethno-nationalism is nothing more than the gamification of another’s humanity.

This, from Starmer today on Channel 4, is his strongest comment on the weekend so far and yet it is still, so, so weak. It's not "chaos". It's far-right racism. WHY are "so many of our communities" scared? CALL IT WHAT IT IS.

Though I guess he'd then have to acknowledge his role in stoking it.

That's the model: driving the population into an refugee camp - over a shrinking territory - with the aim of making their lives so miserable that sooner or later, in one or another, they'll leave for somewhere else.
