I saw charismatic mega fauna and micro fauna today
An elk with antlers standing by the side of the road. A very small garden snail in a tiny puddle of water. It's maybe a quarter of an inch long and the giant crescent of my thumbnail is in the lower part of the photo for scale. It's wee. Really tiny. The eyestalks and body are practically translucent.

I put my pillow out to dry on the back porch without paying particular attention to my surroundings, and now I know what hummingbird shit looks like.

Walked on the beach this weekend and some Pacific sea nettles had washed up and were magnificently gross.

It's a couple feet across, and the patterning of internal organs make it look like it has weird jaws and feelers in the middle of its gelatinous blobitude Foot for scale on a Pacific sea nettle that got absolutely blasted on the sand- lots of different parts scattered everywhere in maroon and brown and pink This Pacific sea Nettle washed ashore is smaller- maybe nine inches across the bell- but is still wickedly gooey and gross, with bits of tentacles still visible in the visceral glistening mass
