I've written sporadically on the internet before on and off throughout the years, but I'm very happy to debut my new piece via @polygon.com in which I dive into the brief cinematic history of the Black Vampire. If you liked SINNERs, then this is for you.

I will certainly try if possible!

Thank you all, and I hope you enjoy the article. More to come.

Finally, this piece wouldn't exist without the game itself, and so I cannot in good conscience end this without thanking the incredibly creative team over @remedygames.com and @samlakewrites.bsky.social for their beautfiul work of art that I have thought about every day since I've played it.
odstspartan.bsky.social
I must give them my many thanks for opening my mind to new and weird theories of thought, especially in regards to art and philosophy. I also must once again thank editor Angel Melanson for her interest in this piece. Her guidance and belief in my writing means the world.

This philisophical theorem has been rattling in my head since the beginning of the year and I have to credit the good folks over @weirdstudiesphil.bsky.social who introduced it to me. Their episodes on it, and IN THE MOUTH OF MADNESS were the perfect catalyst to bring to AW2 and for that...

"There was a crack in the Lake House. The Marmonts had let the lake in, but the water could not flow."

I'm proud to debut my sophmore effort from @fangoria.bsky.social on ALAN WAKE 2 where I bridge the game's deeper thematic underpinnings with the philisophical theory of Hyperstition.

Well I'm off to Sitges tomorrow for our anniversary and the film festival. Here's to good luck.
odstspartan.bsky.social
haha it's all good man. Mostly I think given they said there are no humans in this film and it being just synthetics and alien monsters means they can still go buckwild with gore, it's just because it's not human means the rating can go down. They can still be very much ultra violent.

Check out the latest issue of Fangoria where I chat with @dantrachtenberg.bsky.social
about Predator: Badlands, the future of the franchise, and what other species might make for suitable prey. Thanks, @philnobilejr.bsky.social @jasonkauz.bsky.social @mereborders.bsky.social ! #PredatorBadlands
odstspartan.bsky.social
PREDATOR BADLANDS being PG-13 means not a whole lot when you remember the Bay TRANSFORMER films are also PG-13. You can get away with a helluva lot when you aren't killing people onscreen.

The MPAA, odd as ever.

I keep being asked "Do I read Sutter Cane?", but no one is asking "Should I read Sutter Cane."

I hear he outsells Stephen King.

Do kinda love after all these years of diving into Peter Cushing's filmography that Del Toro similarly has a love for his screen persona and aptly names Mia Wasikowska and Jim Beaver after him.

As I predicted: She dug it.

Feels like a discovery of a long thought lost du Maurier or Henry James novel, albeit with del Toro's propensity for the occasional explosive violence.

The lavish, gothic production design of Thomas E. Sanders is second to none.

Always figured it would be her bag, but I'm showing Suus' CRIMSON PEAK tonight.

Let's see how she vibes with it.

As for the Constantine conversation? Stay tuned.

This is one moment long in the making, and I'm so happy that I got to listen to Priscilla talk about her love of the Parker character, Shane Black's filmography, and PLAY DIRTY.

And yes @diegocrespo.bsky.social, I brought up your favorite:

Biscuits and Gravy while John Carpenter's THE FOG plays.

Suitably warm food for a spooky evening.

At this point I may be responding to old news, but it's weird. He's fine.

Finally saw THE LONG WALK as it released in my neck of the woods and I'm confused as to why people are saying Mark Hamill is giving the worst performances of the year between this and THE LIFE OF CHUCK. He's...fine?

There are far worse performances out there this year than he.

Watch an overly muscled-Frank Grillo fight Howling-style werewolves (one of which is dressed like a full-on punk rocker post-transformation)! What I’m saying here is… Good movie, imo. You should check it out.

My suggestion is Dario Argento's PHENOMENA because it has one of cinema's greatest supporting chimps.
