An unexpected nice thing is when you meet people on marches who you vaguely know but never knew well enough to talk politics with, and without a word it turns out you're both on the same page. That always feels encouraging.

The point when you realise that Nate Silver is not some election predictor guru, but just a shit liberal sophist chancer... their facade should've fallen apart long before now.

I think a lot of people took comfort in them as "balance-makers" (phrase I just made up), or just the power they had to project themselves as sane voices in the madness. Of course that's worn thin now, to the point where no-one but their influential peers and colleagues take them seriously.

You've said it's just the way it is, which ultimately leads to the same outcome as supporting. Nothing is ever just the way it is, it is not an extant form of natural law that has to be lived with. It can be successfully opposed. All you have to do is speak up.
