Whatever it is I probably haven't seen it. Left. Socialist Republic of Scotland (pending). "AI" sceptic. Blocked by Sleaford Mods. He/him. I have music over at https://gunaite.bandcamp.com
There are countless better writers who aren't cunts.

There are countless better composers who aren't cunts.

And similarly in any other creative pursuit you'd care to mention. Even if you haven't heard of them.

The reactionary centrist logic is simple: if the left does something bad it’s the left’s fault, and if the right does something bad, it’s also the left’s fault for making them do it. It’s a simple formula and once you see it every one of their arguments is the same

Anthropomorphizing language conceals the limitations of AI, promoting misplaced trust. @emilymbender.bsky.social & @nannainie.bsky.social suggest focusing on a system’s functionalities: instead of saying a model is “good at” something, say what it is “good for." www.techpolicy.press/we-need-to-t...

LLM users also struggled to accurately quote their own work. While LLMs offer immediate convenience, our findings highlight potential cognitive costs. Over four months, LLM users consistently underperformed at neural, linguistic, and behavioral levels.

Think I might have turned a centre-left acquaintance full on left this evening. Too soon to be sure, but such is the power of whisky and no discretion at new year.

Only thing I'm taking from this is that US homeland security runs on ket and AI image generators.

This is ironically funny given how much accelerationists previously put so much stock on "Moore's Law" (which was never a law in the first place).
Silicon Valley isn’t just polluting our cultural and information systems with AI slop and destroying the environment in the process.

They’re also poised to force consumer electronics to shoot up in price because they’re buying up so much hardware for data centers.

Wildly different things, tasks, techniques, subspecialties being lumped into "AI" and then being conflated with each other, doesn't help. Different types of models vs the techniques to train them vs the tasks they are supposed to accomplish, all under "AI".

An old centrist/conservative trope is "Name a country where socialism has ever worked"
An easy answer is various countries in south and central America. Only for the CIA strangle them in their birth, or not too far into their development...

Trump's defamation suite against the BBC, whatever happens, is going to end up with reasons to hate the BBC even more. It's not like they're going to go "fuck you". Instead they'll capitulate even further, dilute their journalism even more, kill any opportunity for voices on the left to be heard...

What conservatives mean when they say they are "under attack for their views" is that they are being accurately understood as the sort of people who hold the sort of views conservatives hold, and that makes them afraid they will be treated the way conservatives treat those whose views they scorn.
The fact is no presenter has ever had to leave the BBC for expressing conservative views, or even explicitly endorsing a right-wing party.

Very sad that I felt I had no choice but to resign from The Infinite Monkey Cage - a victory for the transphobes and other bigots - I did it because so much of the media has chosen to believe the kind and empathetic people are a fiction - they are real and so often unrepresented.

There are British people in prison who have been hospitalised after being on hunger strike - if it was for anything other than the Palestinian cause it would be front page news. As it is, no media outlet is even slightly interested.

It’s hard to exaggerate how bad the situation is in the UK. There are eight people on hunger strike and David Lammy recently claimed he wasn’t even aware of it. That hunger strikers may actually die is barely even news.
