I hate grimdark aesthetic so much. I hate that people think just because content is dark that it means there shouldn't be color. Did 80s horror teach you nothing. Those horror movies embraced color and they were still scary.

I have seen far too many posts today erasing all of Epstein's male victims.

Young girls were abused. So were young boys. Acting like all the victims were girls upholds the patriarchy all over again by reinforcing the narrative that girls are vulnerable and boys are not.

Do better!

Keep wanting to post something about Catherine O'Hara, but everything seems too small. She was so great, and she gave me incredible joy whenever she was in a film or on television. Endlessly funny from the beginning to the end and for many generations. I loved watching her *so much*.

Cis women, I am going to hold your hand while saying this. Using the photo of Don Lemon and his husband walking out the courthouse after Don (a Black gay man) was wrongly arrested and imprisoned is not a good time to ask for book recs. 🙃

This is fascinating — must read for anyone who cares about movie culture.

But also!

I loathe that the "social embargo" and the "review embargo" are two different things. The "social embargo" is for people shouting "BEST MOVIE EVAR" on X — and then a few days later, the bad reviews come out.
Was surprised how many people noticed the abundance of influencers WB invited to the WUTHERING HEIGHTS premiere. I used that to talk about influencers as celebrities, their lack of transparency on the pay for play model, and trying to be "honest" in their reviews.

Yes, we have big enemies all around, but can we please stop using inherent traits as means for ridicule?

We wouldn't make fun of someone's skin colour, so let's not make fun of their body shape, their age, their weight, their face, their hairline, etc etc

Your shrapnel hits those who watch you.

It's especially shitty of the universe to take Catherine O'Hara. Bullshit, really. We should have had another 1-2 decades of her bringing surprise joy to movies.

Slopwave.
amazing how completely synthwave has embraced slop

like sure it was always kinda slop music so it's natural, this is impossible to ignore even as someone who largely likes the genre, but look at this shit dude, nobody thought about this for more than 0.3 seconds

Economists think people are "lazy" for wanting to do the work of taking care of their kids, or making art, or cleaning and beautifying their homes, or volunteering in their community rather than spending 40 hours a week in meetings and responding to emails so their boss can feel important.
Although I think it probably *would* stop me from wanting to do work that I don't enjoy and takes me away from creativity.
