Trial by jury is a cornerstone of our democracy and an essential safeguard against authoritarianism.

It is truly frightening that such a fundamental freedom is now under attack.

Once rights are lost, they are not easy to win back. We must resist this with all we’ve got.

I'd like to see Martin Scorsese do Love Actually - it would piss everyone off.
If you were a despotic president, what movie would you force Hollywood to make? I want to see Quentin's Star Trek movie or maybe Kill Bill Vol 3.

Today marks the start of 16 Days of Activism against Gender Based Violence. I had a great, but very chilly, evening at the Reclaim the Night March in Aberdeen. I'm currently defrosting! 🥶 Second day of graduations tomorrow. Rector surgery Thursday at Student Union at 2pm!

The BBC is pathetic.
I wish I didn’t have to share this. But the BBC has decided to censor my first Reith Lecture.

They deleted the line in which I describe Donald Trump as “the most openly corrupt president in American history.” /1

It absolutely matters what Nigel Farage said and did when he was in school - it wouldn't matter if he had shown the slightest hint of learning from his mistakes and readjusting his opinions but nothing in his political career suggests he is anything other than a far right bigot.

Yes, well, it's not hard to discern Mason's politics from the crap he utters is it.
Robbie Gibb describes the BBC's Political Editor Chris Mason as the "unsung hero of covering politics" and "absolutely first rate"

If Richard Dannatt is the type of person to accept money for for services beyond his remit then shouldn't his military record be seriously scrutinised, not to mention the possibility that his integrity while in post was seriously compromised to the point where he was a security risk.

Today is the 4th anniversary of the worst ever tragedy in the Channel.

At least 27 men, women & children drowned in the freezing water, & 4 more have never been found.

Since then, neither we nor the French have done a thing to offer people in this situation with real solutions.

Elliott Abrams has demanded the US enact regime change in Venezuela. Who he, you ask? He is the man convicted over withholding information from Congress over the Iran-Contra affair and one of the many architects of the illegal war on Iraq.

I'll be glad when the budget speech is over and the bloody thing is published - absolutely sick of hearing briefings and counter-briefings and analysis of something that literally doesn't exist yet, at least publicly.

Why is Tories only support things once its affected them personally? Maybe a few people like David Cameron should live in poverty for a while and then they'd support decent wages and a better welfare state

Don't understand Leeds insitence on playing Calvert-Lewin or Nmecha ahead of Piroe. Neither are capable of putting the ball in the net, Piroe is proven and at least deserves a run of games to see if he can perform at this level - he can't do worse than not score.
