EU laws are there to protect nature.

By doing so, they protect us - our health, quality of life, economic resilience.

Now, the European Commission wants to weaken these laws…

This is a critical moment to have your voice heard.

Have your say:

🚨New research out today🚨

We critically examine the use of 'temperature neutrality' or 'no additional warming' as a approach to setting national climate targets, particularly in relation to agricultural methane reduction.

We found that using this approach...

New data centre secures planning permission in Dublin, absurdly arguing that being powered mainly by on-site gas turbines means it will “play a part in Ireland’s decarbonisation strategy” - it’s the most deceitful yet common argument thrown out there.

This data centre operator is arguing that because it's building new fossil gas infrastructure to power itself, it's helping to 'decarbonise' the grid

There is something uniquely brain-breaking about gas, in the energy / tech world

What's truly extraordinary here is that Ireland's planning approval Commission thinks it can ignore the Climate Act, energy experts & scientific reality, despite knowing its *cumulative* decisions are adding up to breaking the law & exceeding carbon budgets.

Guess we'll see how 🇮🇪 & 🇪🇺 judges decide.

Comparing GHG intensity of economic agricultural output across all EU member states.
– My charts via Eurostat and UNFCCC data.

[Ireland has by far the least "climate efficient" agriculture of any MS. In other words, Irish agri output has by far the highest GHG emissions per euro in kgCO2e/€]

🧵Some questionable assertions in this CCAC agri & land Annual Review for Ireland⏬
1. "A modest increase in ambition is necessary to achieve the 25% reduction by 2030 in emissions committed to"
➡️ Untrue. Radical action is needed as methane cuts ("limited progress") crucial to the CCAC Paris Test.

While emissions in the Agriculture and Land Use sector fell in 2024 relative to 2023, the sector is not on course to meet its 2030 commitments. Our review of the sector has been published today with key observations and policy recommendations. Read more: shorturl.at/dR9AM
