The Kids Are Wrong is something they need to drop in order to bring the average age of our hobby down from well past 60.

The local club losing their location is part because the donut shop needs to expand but the other part is definitely about idleness and lack of new membership.

Food for thought.

If the association is expending substantial money on publications they really need to be up to speed on structure and factual content.

Most old people are conservatives and aren't really concerned about the continuity of the hobby, but that it stays the same as it was in their youth. >

I get that the national association didn't have anyone better to write that course material, given that most effort goes to contest awards and internal strife, and the writer is not an easy person to work with.
We really need to improve the public face of amateur radio to sustain this hobby. >

The chapters and contents are in awkward order, we're first taught grounding with 2cm thick cables into distribution busbar, and later "the best way to know electricity is to piss into an electric fence". There's a lot of tube circuit schematics but for LED resistors you've got online calculators. >

But as a space war game, this kicks. Especially if your fellow underdogs are fond of making treaties

I'd love this game more if it wasn't for the ease of going into a three hour long death spiral with resources/worlds

Of course there was that single old fart telling me to "get a better antenna" without more elaboration, naturally without giving their call.

...the silent expectation is, of course, that everyone's running legal kilowatts (or above) with a mast at home, so it's about the antenna.
