Showering with somebody else is already such an intimate, vulnerable action, but when your body dysphoria is at full alert it becomes an impossible ask. @qqnge.bsky.social tells a tender story about navigating that discomfort and finding connection.

Suds & Kisses by Ange Friera, published 10/21/2025 on https://www.ohjoysextoy.com/suds-n-kisses-ange-friera

Ange Friera draws with a a thin, textured line and uses a color palette primarily of browns, oranges, and grays- except for later in the story when the colors shift to blues, pinks, and maroons.

The view starts outside of a residential building, just barely showing a person sitting on their couch on the other side of the window. The point of view jumps to the main character, who is looking at the TV remote in their hand, with the cuff of their thick brown hoody pulled up to their wrist.

"Oh, it's out!" From behind their shaggy red hair, the viewer sees that the main character has a movie menu open on their wide TV screen.

"'The Maestro'?" Calls a voice from the next room.

"Yeah, c'mere!" The red-headed person replies, gesturing at the screen. For the first time we can see that they are a non-binary masc person with a light orange skin tone, round eyes, and multiple facial piercings and wearing a big thick hoody. They are holding a throw pillow against their chest while browsing the offerings on TV.

"Oh, shoot. Hold on!" The voice from the other room calls back.
Now popping their head in through the door with a towel slung over their shoulder, they continue, "I wanna shower first. Wait for me?" They have black hair that swoops over and past their shoulder, with the sides of their head shaved. Their skin tone is slightly darker than the other character's, and their eyes are almond-shaped.

"Only if you don't take forever!" Laughs the red head.

Cautiously, the black haired person offers, "You know... You're always welcome to join me. ...If you're feeling up for it."

"O-oh." The red head hugs their pillow more tightly to their chest, a nervous expression falling over their face. "..I don't know..." Beads of sweat roll down their cheek.
From off panel, the red head continues, "I just... don't feel comfortable in my body yet... Maybe after the surgery...?"

"Hey, hey..." The black haired partner interjects, waving their hands quickly as if to wave away their initial suggestion. "It's alright, baby. Don't worry about it." They're trying to be reassuring but their brows are knitted.

From their tight little ball on the couch, the red head replies, "... Okay..." without making eye contact.

"I'll be quick!" The partner says, blowing a little kiss before disappearing through the door.

Hey Hey, ya girl is back in Savage Love talkin' with @dansavage.bsky.social about vibrators built to take a pounding 🪄😘
savage.love/savagelove/2...
Screenshot of Savage Love column from September 30, 2025, "Quickies"

"11. AFAB here. I’ve worn out two plug-in Hitachi Magic Wands in the last three years. (RIP. LOL.) Is there a waterproof plug-in vibrator out there that costs less?

“Cheaper options exist,” said my go-to sex toy expert Erika Moen, “but your AFAB reader will burn through those cheaper options even faster because when it comes to sex toys, you really do get what you pay for: cheaper toys are of cheaper quality and they wear out much faster. Stick with Magic Wands, which are built to last (mine is 15 years old!) and come with a warranty!”

Erika Moen is the genius behind acclaimed sex education website Oh Joy Sex Toy."

Just what IS "queer"? Dr. Meg-John Barker and Julia Scheele take on this complicated, beautiful, contradictory topic in their book, "QUEER: A Graphic History". Read this review by @erikamoen.bsky.social and Matthew Nolan and then go get'cher self a copy! 1/2

Queer: A Graphic History, a review by Erika Moen, published on https://www.ohjoysextoy.com/queer-book on November 29, 2016

Erika draws in a soft, cartoon-y style with a pink palette. Samples of Julia Scheele's artwork appear throughout the comic as well, which are also cartoony but much more angular.

Alex wears glasses, a tank top and black leggings and stands outside a big black door labeled "QUEER". Their black hair is pulled back into a bun.

"Hm, you know I've always been curious..." Alex muses to themself. "Just what IS 'QUEER'?"

Just as they begin to crack the door, Erika bursts in from the side of the panel, shouting, "Wait! There's some things you should know before you open that do-"

Too late! Alex leans in to the room on the other side of the door, anchored only be their one hand on the doorway. They hold their free hand up to their eyes, to get a better look at the bedlam unfurling before them. It is a room packed with people all talking passionately and even arguing. Snippets of their conversations overlap, including:
"I was born this way!"
"Privilege!"
"Marriage is a civil right!"
"Gender is a performance!"
"Identity is fluid!"
"Marriage is a mainstream assimilation!"
"'Queer' is an umbrella term!"
"Why don't you make like a bisexual and NOT EXIST!"
"Intersectionality!"
"Sexuality is innate!"
"'Queer' is a SLUR!"
"We're all a little bit bi!"

Alex wheels back to the other side of the door, slamming it closed. "What was THAT?" They ask in shock as they slump against the door to keep it from re-opening.

"That, my friend, is the door to the world of everything "Queer" and all the concepts and discussions it harbors." Erika explains jovially. "...It can be a little overwhelming, I know." Erika is a white cis woman with short pink hair who wears a long hoody, black skirt, and tall black boots.

A giant copy of the book "QUEER: A Graphic History by Meg-John Barker and Julia Scheele. Published by Icon Books." appears next to Erika, who gestures at it, saying, "This invaluable book by Dr. Barker and illustrated by Scheele is a friendly introduction to the vast, deep, chaotic sea of (almost) everything 'Queer'. Ohmy gosh, I FILLED up my copy with notes on almost every page. It is required reading."

Information floats by the book, adding, "$17.95, 176 pages"

Reading from her own normal-sized copy of the book, Erika goes on, "The shifting ideas of sex, gender, and sexuality are looked at historically, culturally, lexicologically, biologically, psychologically, sexologically, and probably some other smart-sounding words that end in -ologically too."

Holding up their hands while taking a step back, Alex replies cautiously, "Whoah now, that sounds hella academic."

"That's the genius of Dr. Barker's book!" Erika continues. "It takes complex concepts and translates them into simpler explanations for the Average Joe like me who didn't major in them at a university or something. Basically, it's a crash course in queer history, philosophy, and activism."

Icons float overhead showing an hourglass (for history), the head silhouette of a person stroking their chin pensively with a thought balloon emanating above them (for philosophy), and the silhouette of a raised fist (for activism).

"Oo, and it's full of fun drawings!" Realizes Alex as they flip through the pages.

"Ok, so if I read this, then I'll have a nice, simple cheat sheet to all the correct definitions and simple answers to my questions about queer stuff, yeah?" Asks Alex, holding up the book.

"Haha, that's not really how it works." Erika explains.

Narration: Something I really appreciate about Dr. Barker is how they emphasize that no definitions are "right" or set in stone.

A more realistic portrait of Dr. Meg-John Barker appears, showing them with a short crop of black hair, glasses, and a coat over their top shirt layers. They explain, "One key point of queer theory is that our understandings of sex, gender, identity (and pretty much everything) are contextual. That means they have all been understood, and practiced, in very different ways over time and across cultures." (p. 17)

Narration: Dr. Barker also devotes a lot of space to the contradictions, tension, and criticism of queer theory. They cover so many different perspectives and encourage you to figure out what concepts work best for you personally in your life.

A sample of Scheele's artwork is on display. It shows a person on either side of a diagonal line, representing their dual experiences. On the left side, they gesture at a blackboard with a pointer and are dressed professionally in a collared blouse with a long black skirt. This version of that person says, "My activism doesn't always agree with the theories I teach, but they often overlap." On the other side of the diagonal line, the same person is now dressed casually in jeans and t-shirt, holding up a picket sign with their other fist in the air.

Narration: Artist Scheele knocks it out of the park with her bold, deceptively-simple artwork. She's at her best when her drawings are literally illustrating the concepts Dr. Barker writes about.

Full transcript: https://www.ohjoysextoy.com/queer-book/
Erika walks down a hall of portraits, which are illustrated by Scheele. They include: Teresa de Lauretis, Michel Foucault, Julia Serano, Cathy Cohen, Gayle Rubin, Audre Lorde, E. Patrick Johnson.

She talks while gesturing with her copy of the book, "I have many large, embarrassing gaps in my education, and this book was my introduction to a lot of people and concepts that I vaguely recognized but never really studied. Honestly? I'd never even heard of a good number of the people and ideas in here at all. This book even introduced me to some ways of thinking and ideas that feel incredibly relevant to me RIGHT now, even outside of queer stuff!"

"Whoah, getta load of this Foucault guy and his panopticon theory!" Exclaims Alex in front of an excerpt from the book. It features another illustration by Scheele, showing three people standing back-to-back inside a rounded room of mirrors, each reflecting the person with some distortion. The person announces, "It's hard to be 'myself' when I feel like I'm being watched all the time." Overlaid across the illustration is an excerpt of text by Barker, reading, "Foucault, however, used the panopticon to illuminate the ways in which people in contemporary societies become so aware of the various critical gazes upon them that they end up self-monitoring their own actions through fear that they might not be acceptable to others. This has developed into a culture where everybody polices themselves through fear of punishment, ridicule, and disapproval." (p. 66)

Alex continues, "He wrote this in the '70s but he's describing me relationship with social media right now."

"I'm sure every 18-year-old college freshman philosophy student already knew about this, but it was new to me!" Chirps Erika, unashamed at her ignorance.

I want to make it very clear when I advocate for asexual rep I am in no way calling for censorship, homophobia, transphobia, queer erasure, purity culture, or hatred of sex. I believe in sex education, marriage equality, bodily autonomy, and other human rights—and asexuality is part of that.

2/2 Dr. Barker devotes a lot of space to the contradictions, tension, and criticism of queer theory in their book, which makes it a thought-provoking read.
www.ohjoysextoy.com/queer-book/
"Overall Dr. Barker does a good job at translating scholarly text into regular people talk, but..." Erika says, sitting upon a wall made of tense text

"I don't understand what this meeeeeans!" Wails Alex, who is unfortunately getting crushed beneath the text wall.

Erika resumes, "...at times they still use language that's a bit too academic for me to follow."

Now Erika stands upright, getting squished on either side between densely illustrated pages of the book as she explains, "It's a pretty dense read that would have benefitted from some chapter breaks and a more thoughtful layout of how the text and images were placed next to each other."

Back to her normal size, Erika continues while pointing to her temples, "Mild criticism aside, I loved this book. Dr. Barker and Scheele got me to think critically about some of my personal beliefs and exposed me to new ideas."

Narration: In the book's own words...

Another illustration from Scheele fills up the bottom of the page. It shows an open book with lots of loose papers partially wedged between the pages with little people interacting with them. Across the open spread of the book, it reads, "Introducing Queer Theory". Another person stands closer to the viewer, explaining, "The idea is to invite you into queer theory and to encourage you to try thinking queerly."

Erika and Alex jointly hold open a regular sized book while Alex announces, "Don't mind if I do!"

Before getting in their first relationship, Tessa Luicart had plenty of time to dream up the wildest and kinkiest scenarios in their fantasies. But, of course, they had to start at the basics with their first partner!
www.ohjoysextoy.com/exploring-ki...
Exploring Kink by Tessa Luicart, published 9/30/2025 on ohjoysextoy.com
Tessa Luicart illustrates in a bold, cartoony style with a color palette primarily in sage greens, browns, and pale yellow. During intimate or intense moments, passionate reddy-pinks and blacks are added to the palette.

A younger Tessa lays on her side, tucked into bed. With big chunky headphones on, they are furtively glued to the phone in their hand, which illuminates their face in the dark. They are a white, nonbinary person with fluffy brown hair who normally wears big round glasses when they're not secretly watching videos in bed.

Narration: I was watching porn before I was in any serious relationships.

Modern Day Tessa appears, explaining with some good natured embarrassment, "It led to a pretty... skewed picture of my future sex life."
Narration: I had all these fantasies of what my first time would be like, wild and kinky.

Beneath the narration, Tessa closes their eyes and dreamily envisions scenes of hot queers going to town on each other with ropes and bondage and handcuffs and ball gags and all kinds of unrestrained joy.
Waking from their revery, Tessa waves away their fantasy, explaining, "And obviously, no, it was not like that." Their daydream disappears in a fluffy POOF. "(Not that my first time was bad, let's be clear.)" They quickly follow up.

A banner reading "Read the rest on OhJoySextoy.com" partially obscures the bottom of the image.

Before getting in their first relationship, Tessa Luicart had plenty of time to dream up the wildest and kinkiest scenarios in their fantasies. But, of course, they had to start at the basics with their first partner!

Three Greatest SFW Fetishes By Trudy Cooper & Ryan North, published April 7, 2015, ohjoysextoy.com/three-greatest-sfw-fetishes-by-trudy-ryan

Trudy Cooper draws with in a cartoony style with clean lines and fine details. The color palette is hues of lavender against black line work.

Narration: You know what's weird? Lots of things! But here's one of them: We don't know where fetishes come from!

Three scientists debate hotly amongst each other, gesturing at a dry erase board that has "Fetishes: Normal variations of human sexuality" emblazoned across the top. Beneath the title reads a handwritten, "Check Wikipedia?" and then below that is a list reading, "Imprinting, Association, Partialism" with each word scribbled out.

Narration: We've got theories, but no decisive facts.

Narration: One theory is it's triggered by something in childhood...

A young person is shown in a hospital bed with their leg cast elevated in a sling. As the young person looks at a nearby nurse who is distracted writing on their own clipboard, the kid says, "Hmm..." thoughtfully.

Narration: Which leads to an erotic fasciation as an adult.

The previous young person is now fully grown up and at a costume party! Their fashionable chocker and tattoos peek out from the nurse's costume they're wearing as they eye up another party-goer who is also dressed as a nurse. "Hmmm...!" They think to themself with a hungry look in their eye.

Narration: Others argue that, much like sexualities, each of us is born with all the fetishes we'll ever have.

At the hospital, a couple eagerly holds out their arms to receive their newly born infant who is being passed to them by their doctor.

"Congratulations!" The doctor exclaims. "It's a baby!"

Full transcript: https://www.ohjoysextoy.com/three-greatest-sfw-fetishes-by-trudy-ryan Narration: But I've personally known people who have cultivated fetishes in adulthood, ending up being big into lots of stuff they didn't originally have any interest in.

A patron stands at a re-purposed movie theater concession stand, but all the menu items have been replaced with types of fetishes. What was once a soda machine now dispenses lube and various sex toys and accoutrements are displayed on the wall like candy. The cashiers wear bondage and fetish gear as they ring up people's orders on the checkout terminals. The patron gazes up hungrily at one of the overhead menus, their tongue sticking out in concentration and their pointer finger pressed to their chin. The menu reads:
"Fetishes:
Autopushophilia
Dendrophilia
Formicophilia
[indecipherable]-ismaphilia
[indecipherable] -acrophilia
Melognia
Microphilia
Oculonctus
Olfactophilia
Sthenolagnia
Trichophilia"

And another sign advertises, "Deal of the Week! Choose any three for the price of two!"

Narration: Usually this was because of wanting to be giving and game with a partner!

A person is in the act of climbing into bed with their partner, who holds up a pair of fuzzy handcuffs and asks, "I thought it'd be fun if you tied me up."

"Hmm... I guess!" Replies the first partner gamely.

Caption: Three weeks later:

The person holding the handcuffs from before is now reading a large bondage guide in bed, saying, "I thought it'd be fun if you t--"

"Waaaaaay ahead of you." Their previously inexperienced partner finishes, already dangling from the ceiling upside down in a suite of elaborate Shibari rope bondage.

Narration: How do you know what you're into unless you've seen if before, right? So whether you're looking to cultivate a new fetish, or merely hoping to trip over one you never even know you had, let's go over... The Three Greatest -

The word "FETISHES" explodes across the page dramatically.

Narration: That I guess are safe for work, because you can totally watch them on YouTube.
Narration: First up: Body Inflation

A person enthusiastically uses a bicycle tire pump that is attached to their sleeve to pump up their shoulder-area to be three times bigger than their head.

Narration: This is where you get turned on by people being inflated like balloons. This is not possible in real life (surprise!) but you can simulate it with balloons under your clothes.

The person has now so successfully inflated their clothing that they are flying away through the air like a giant beachball in the wind as they continue happily pumping away on their little bike pump.

Narration: And there's nothing wrong with a fetish that can't be realized in reality! Why should we restrict our imaginations to only what reality has to offer, anyway?

Narration: Amazingly, as long as everyone whose body is inflating keeps their clothes ob, this flies under YouTube's radar.

A serious-looking worker in the Censoring Department wears a collared shirt and tie while intently watching a video of the afore-mentioned inflated person who is floating away through the sky. The worker holds a clipboard with a paper reading: "Porn" and "Not Porn", each with a checkbox beside them. The worker puts a check next to "Not Porn"

Narration: It seems the YouTube censors are all...

The censor leans back in their chair, leaning the clipboard against their chest as they clasp their hands behind the back of their head. They look at the censoring screen with a critical, yet weary, look. "Why, this isn't sex!" They declare. "This is just close-up expansion shots, all animated with the same obsessive focus on the mechanics of such an act, much like you'd see in the porn I'm familiar with! Maybe it's a demo reel or something, I dunno.

Narration: But it's TOTALLY SEX.

Full transcript: https://www.ohjoysextoy.com/three-greatest-sfw-fetishes-by-trudy-ryan/ Narration: Next up: Microphilia and/or Macrophilia!

A middle-aged person smiles down devilishly at the teacup the hold in their hand. Inside it soaks a naked tiny person, smiling back and saucily showing off a leg.

Narration: This is where you love the idea of a tiny tiny person or a giant. Again: Totally impossible but also totally easy to fake using Photoshop, or by setting your video camera low to the ground to film a tiny person's POV shots as "giants" walk around!

A nude person with short hair and facial piercings rests their chin in one hand and gazes contentedly at the tiny orgy happening in their other outstretched hand.

Narration: Again, as long as everyone keeps their clothes on, YouTube censors will totally assume this isn't porn. But even if YouTube is blocked, the nice thing about being into shrinking people is that you can make your own images really easily!

Over the shoulder of a person, we see their desktop file manager, which lists a tree of folders reading:
"Computer: (C:): My Pictures: Not Porn: Seriously, No Porn Here!!: Porn: Pictures Taken with my partner's consent to be used for this exact purpose: OHBABY.JPG"

The camera pulls back to review that this person is in their cubicle at work, and they take a quick look over their shoulder to ensure that their coworkers are occupied with their own work.

Back over the shoulder of this office worker, they bite their tongue as they look at the OHBABY.JPG photo of their sweetie, who reclines nude among pillows and looks at the camera seductively. A pop-up box appears partially over the photo reading, "Shrink Image by 10000%." with a "Cancel" and "OK" button. The cursor hovers over the "OK" button.

Blushing in pleasure, the office worker rests their chin in their hands as they devour the image with their eyes and laugh to themself, "Hah Hah Hah! Thanks, my sexuality!"
