I'm excited to finally have a preprint of this paper up, a few years in the making.

In it we argue that industry-driven manipulation of social media research is well underway and that norms and institutions in the field are ill-prepared to resist tech's influence.

With the level of confusion Gen AI is now causing in relation to news events, it might be time for a comprehensive thread with a step-by-step guide on spotting and verifying AI-generated content, including AI audio, images and videos.

It'll take some time, but is worth the effort, so stay tuned.
