That's super interesting and speaks directly to the ongoing research project of the bsky-less Tomas Turner-Zwinkels (Tilburg University). His Veni project focuses on turnover during legislative terms and representation of marginalised groups:

Gender, ethnicity, or incumbency: While they affect how many votes candidates get in open list PR, they don't necessarily determine who wins a seat.

📣 My new research note in @electoralstudies.bsky.social tackles this discrepancy by studying counterfactual scenarios.

Conversely, the study provides no evidence that trust in politicians with day jobs depends on the individual decision-making powers of their public office (legislative instead of executive role).

📣 When do citizens accept politicians with a day job? My new study in @lgstudies.bsky.social shows how it depends on public office professionalisation.

When offices with greater time demands and higher pay are combined with day jobs, citizens trust politicians less.

I'm happy to share this new paper about political elites. We find that elite careers are more distinct and shifts across elites less common than often assumed (with a great group of co-authors): ejpr.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/... 1/5
