Empirically, we draw on an original survey of youth party members in Switzerland 🇨🇭 The results show pronounced gendered patterns in the character and consequences of online abuse.

I got a job as a policy adviser in a unit of the Cabinet Office called the Better Regulation Executive, a job title that would end conversation with most polite company. I had even started shortening what I told people I did. One day I returned home to the flat I shared with two other New Zealanders in Fulham. Our upstairs neighbour was sitting on the front step, taking in some rare British sunshine. We got to talking, and when it came to what we were doing for work, I told him I worked in the Cabinet Office. "Oh, right," he said in a thick Australian accent and nodding his head. There was a pause. "What type of cabinets do you make?" He wasn't being cheeky; his question was genuine.
"Dining and occasional," I replied. I smiled, and left him to his sun-bathing.
