Saw a meme arguing that people with "some dumb $80K-a-year job" are often smarter than the very rich. The overall point is good, but $80K is almost $20K higher than the current US average, which is in turn about $15K higher than the average pay for adjunct professors ($46K). PhD ≠ smart, but still.

When lecturing about the Roman emperor Augustus, I always say, "Imagine in the US there's still a POTUS and Congress and Supreme Court, but there's also a guy who has the powers of all of the above for life, plus sole control of the army. Also, he's the pope."

When lecturing about the Roman emperor Augustus, I always say, "Imagine in the US there's still a POTUS and Congress and Supreme Court, but there's also a guy who has the powers of all of the above for life, plus sole control of the army. Also, he's the pope."
A few seconds after this, the dog rolled over for a belly rub, thus landing on and upsetting the cat--who, however, fled only as far as the furthest end of the window ledge.
