Those who voted Trump would mostly do so again or would probably not regret it in a major way. So stop patting yourselves on the back and smugly thinking yourselves Cassandras and do something useful.

People responding to this seem often to be conflating Republican lack of concern about extremism with the few centrist media figures of little consequence who were cautious or pedantic about words or whatever.
December 18, 2025 at 3:01 PM
What is the point of interviewing 37 supposed Cassandra's out of the millions who have been filled with doom since Trump emerged and then presenting your "sense" of who they are. Instead do some analysis of those who didn't vote or voted Trump.
December 18, 2025 at 3:01 PM
This told-you-so stuff is a bit pathetic: click-bait self-affirmation. Virtually all non republicans feared the worst. You're not some genius prophet for thinking Trump a fascist 10 years ago. Yes, a few media figures downplayed it but at least give evidence this made a difference.

I've never thought of that before. But how many bike thefts actually involve cutting a half decent lock? I find it hard to believe thieves would carry powerful bolt cutters but not an Allen key.

Referring to big inflexible gas plants, Leibreich says
"The problem is, you are then locked in for the life of that plant and – given the scale of the infrastructure serving it – perhaps forever."
This would be just the sort of thing that campaigners campaign against. But Fawcet hates that.
December 11, 2025 at 10:53 PM
The Leibreich piece is interesting, much better than the Fawcet.
Most of it isn't really controversial. But I don't see the evidence presented for their conviction that nothing campaigners do can have positive impact. None of this for example happens automatically or in a political vacuum:

Is there data for the proportion that are electric and how much that accounts for the increase?

😮

Milking drivers as cash cows means govt has an interest in maintaining high car ownership and usage and keeping them relatively happy.
November 22, 2025 at 9:44 PM
I could say "objectively" if it helps😄. And I'm not arguing with the data or that many pedestrians & cyclists own cars. But those who don't (30-40% households in London) are likely to be poorer and probably more to lose from the govt neglect of active and public transport mentioned by the o.p.
November 22, 2025 at 9:44 PM
Yeah but non-car owning households would surely be generally lower earning compared to car-owners. And then there's the fuel and vehicle charges. The point sonofrojblake is getting at seems kind of true to me.

Wow.
November 18, 2025 at 9:03 PM
Really? In the UK Gen Xers were barely aware of MTV, I don't remembering any friends having access to it. We listened to John Peel and copied cassette tapes.

Pretty misleading to post this now with that quote without any mention that it was published in August and there have been deaths since, contrary to the claim that the capital was Finnished with car related fatalities.

Not only annoys MPs but also wasn't in manifesto. This is also a breach of electoral trust.

Forget the silly paint job. All you need is one of those "I bought it before I knew Musk was a Nazi" bumper stickers.
