At Old Rogue Studio, my mission is to breathe new life into classic game mechanics and forgotten designs, reimagining them for modern players.
Behind every indie game is a person (or persons) who refused to quit.

It took 4 days of playing with data assets, structs, arrays, for loops, and tables to get a functional weapon menu. Even with 7 years of UE knowledge.

Slow progress is progress. Games aren’t built overnight, they’re built win by win

Systems don’t have genres — we give them context.
Inventory, health, dialogue, progression... all built on the same foundations.
If you’re stuck, look sideways. A shooter tutorial might solve your RPG problem.

The original “Final Fantasy” was named literally. Square was facing bankruptcy at the time of the game’s release making it their last published title. In other words, it was literally their “Final Fantasy”.

Could it be one studio genuinely wanted to try something new, and the others just followed suit??
Brown was to try to make players think they were in for "realism"

Neon colors is to try to make players think they are in for "innovation"
Remember the 'brown filter' art style FPS games around 2008?

I'm getting a bit of the vibe that now in 2025, the 'neon colours' art style is similarly repeated between games.

I wonder what causes such style similarities. Tech? Similar inspiration? Fluke?

I know my tiny little presence here has been mostly reposts of other developers' work, but I'm in the middle of a dev break. Hopefully something to show this weekend when I am back into it with fresh eyes and brains.

I feel this in the deepest parts of my soul everyday.
Limited time, energy drain from day job, mental exhaustion, lack of consistent focus, financial pressure to earn vs. create, sporadic motivation, and constant context-switching between work and #gamedev makes #indiedev incredibly challenging. But, you do it anyway.

Good to know for both devs and consumers. Devs, keep your stuff updated!
Steam now warns about Early Access that have not been updated in months.

🕵️ Tip: SteamDB browser extension shows last update for all games.

Material Maker now has a second alpha release for 1.4 (with awesome UI redesign by Jowan-Spooner).
Please don't hesitate to test it and report problems while I'm fixing bugs for alpha 3. 😄
It is an alpha and the stable release is still 1.3. 😉
