Streets are still closed off in front of the Portland ICE facility at 8:30pm. Protesters have gathered on a side street. Dance party in progress.

A present we all probably agree on, that what we're seeing is absolutely unacceptable.
oligarchopoly.bsky.social
So we're really arguing over, is on the topics those people care about - she didn't wow them.

Yea, it got us here. You can keep arguing about the past, or understand their position and argue about the present.

Hey, Uh? You're implying I believe something, that I have not said.

I voted for Kamala. But, I totally understand people not voting for her, because if you truly believe the same amount of death will happen one way or the other, and that's the main thing you care about - both options were crap.

We can do speculative politics all day long, but the sequence of events would have been very different had the election gone the other way.

Did she have a shit policy position on a lot of things: yes.

Does that really matter now? No.

We still need more than two options every cycle.

There is a sea of direct action between violence and sitting in your house talking on the internet. The regime will attack again, everyone knows it.

The more they instigate, and the more we show them we're not scared - the better. There's a lot of power in standing up to a bully.

4. Of more than 160,000 students enrolled, only 43 families chose to opt out of LGBTQ+ education.

In a report released October 2nd, MCPS approved just 58 opt out requests from 43 families... 0.03% of students.

Meaning 99.97% of families chose to let their kids learn about LGBTQ+ people.

Of the center-right people I talked to over the last decate, many thought electing him would unify us.

In a weird way, they might be correct.

Us all unifying against authoritan over-reach for the first time this century, would surely benefit everyone.

I'm annoyed, because of course he's older than Tylenol.

But I still went and looked it up.

From the discussions I have seen, it feels like people think that once the immigrants are gone, rich people will start taking care of anyone still here.

As if immigrants were holding up universal healthcare, or helping the homeless.

So here is my question. Let’s assume Miller & Co. are successful, i.e., they deport, jail, kill, all of the “undesirables.” What do they think society is like then? Like, what happens when they realize there’s still crime, drugs, and no one around to do half the jobs, from manual to skilled labor?1/

We did it for how long with leaded gasoline?

Americans have shown time and again, if the drawbacks are more than 3 months away: They don't matter.

I was just thinking of the kind of person who elected Trump BECAUSE he would mess it up.

If they're paying attention, they're realizing the car is rolling away JUST about now.
oligarchopoly.bsky.social
You know when you are pushing a car, and the car starts getting easier to push, but then the car starts going faster than you can keep up, and then the car rolls off into a ditch.

I just had a moment. We're gonna look back on this period in time the same way we talk about COVID.

Yea, I remember that period where you had no idea if they're gonna go THAT far, and just arrest people en-mass tomorrow.

I remember what I was doing, during the fall of American supremacy.

This is not "de-escalation"—this is state violence. The actions being taken are far from calming the situation; instead, they exacerbate tensions and demonstrate a disturbing disregard for human rights.

He's clearly been playing our little game of Monopoly, with this extra card for a LONG time.

If only the rest of our system would stop letting him get away with using custom rules.

Because the people who write their paychecks hold this card:

I just wish the GOP wasn't also holding this card.

There will never be an age-rating high enough for them on their issues. Time and time again, they show that they just want it gone for everyone, regardless of age.

They don't want to see queer people, the way others don't want to see shows with bigoted people.

We need better tagging/filtering.

Every few months now I re-read this "Who Goes Nazi?" piece from 1941 and am blown away by how it captures the people we are dealing with 80 years later.

Just rewatched Boots Reily's "Sorry to Bother You"

It kinda cathartic right now, as we watch the USA's governmental and societal norms break down.
oligarchopoly.bsky.social
Our democracy should have a house of congress based upon labor/professions nationally, instead of two based upon states.

Plumbers
Electricians
Famers
Farm Hands
Accountants
Engineers
Researchers
Logistics
Unemployed
etc.

Proportional to the number of people who do that work.

This is feeling more and more like it's the core of the Republican shutdown strategy.
oligarchopoly.bsky.social
Once I realized that republicans don't want half the services the shutdown affects - their attempt to paint it as the Democrats fault made a lot more sense.

They're saying "We could take or leave this stuff. If you want it to stay, you need to agree to our terms."
