It doesn’t help that Citizens United makes elections so expensive that both parties reach out to the same donor class. Dems are trying to appeal to billionaires’ benevolence Republicans to their insatiable greed and desire for power.

It is easier to blame Democrats for caving than to confront the reality that key positions of public service are occupied by people who want to harm rather than help. *Voted in* by a plurality of citizens.

He is right that Dems have an inherent disadvantage. In a negotiation that involves sociopaths who are happy to hurt others and normal people who hate to see people suffer, the sociopaths appear to have the upper hand.

Sad thing is the people I think of as being able to persuade 46 colleagues to not self immolate are all in the House! Democratic senators get to make the choice of who should lead them - they are the only ones who understand the persuasiveness of their colleagues and get to vote for minority leader.

Hopefully they want to be minority leader and all their colleagues *vote* for them to assume the role.
