For the record, this is an art school chum, so we're about the same age. It isn't a case of a younger guy being cheered on by relatives excited for his new career. He's been hanging about as long as I have.

No money, no friend or family recognition. Nothing.

I mean, I'm grateful to anyone who IS psyched when I get a new project, or have a new piece of artwork.

But his friends and family, those closest to him, are RELENTLESS in how much they support him.

I get relatives who ask me every year "what are you doing for work now?"

I was curious cos it sounds neat (when it works) and my ability to sing is usually good enough to determine notes (for others - I can't tell). My piano skills are VERY bad, so using a midi keyboard (which I have) isn't the best.

The only thing I noticed at my 10 year reunion was 1) the girl I had a crush on in my freshman year was now a strapping male photographer, and 2) everyone still separated into cliques.

I miss that from art school - working in a room with people doing what I'm doing. It's inspirational, and gets you friendly competitive to up your own game.

I haven't had that in 26 years. :(

Heck, my youngest son would be into that. Been heavy into WWI and WWII since he was 8 (he's 14 now).
