there's no workaround, locking comments to registered users will prevent comments from hate bots (just not scam comments) which are always guest comments. the hate bots use the names of actual ao3 users in order to sow discord, but they do not actually come from whoever's username they appropriated

quite possible! i do sympathise in that case. in my anecdotal experience, i've seen quite a few (unrelated) genai texts right next to human-written fic, and especially in rare pair tags there seems to be a preference for the genai text ;-;
