it’s basically a number that tells you how much light the camera sensor is letting in! a higher aperture (lower aperture number) means more light and also a stronger depth of field effect

Interesting bit here: the company who apparently churned the data for that Rolling Stone report [GUDEA] is a tiny company whose sole known investor is Techstars. One of the founders of Techstars is Jared Polis, Gov. of Colorado who apparently is a huge Taylor Swift fan. The Showgirl is a play within a play Discussion Okay… last night I couldn’t sleep. I’m going to type my thoughts and let me know what you think of them. Forewarning they are slightly rambled… In I Can Do it With a Broken Heart, she explicitly states… “I can read your mind "She's having the time of her life" There in her glittering prime The lights refract sequined stars off her silhouette every night I can show you lies (one, two, three, four)” The moment I heard this album, I told my husband she’s the puppet. The director Taylor is putting showgirl Taylor into these situations because it’s FUN to play with the audience. She explicitly calls to Hamlet which is a play within a play. She’s literally baiting us into saying “what is this? We didn’t want this!” even though it’s exactly what we’ve asked her for. Does anyone remember people saying TTPD was too depressing? I do! She is giving us glitter, sparkles, happiness. She’s proving her point. Nothing she does will be good enough for the audience - we are the KING (in Hamlet, the King is found guilty because he leaves when the murder is revealed) and she is provoking us. She’s mirroring our reactions. She’s giving us appearance vs reality. It is meta theatrical commentary. She is foreshadowing something bigger. I believe in the 3 Taylor’s (the characters she creates + real Taylor that we will never see) and this is an album that reeks of satire “we tell them to leave us the fuck alone and they do! Wow!” I’ve also have thought she’s been extremely contradictory to herself on this promotion / rollout. Saying she’s offline, doesn’t have apps, yet knows everything and has historically been chronically online. Also engaging with people via social media. There’s more but the contradictions = lying/ dishonesty = Pinocchio. This is a ramble but thought I’d put it out since I haven’t seen it talked about much. "The Crowd is Your King": The Mousetrap in the Hamlet Discussion There is something about this album that feels like peeling an onion. It kept on unfolding for me the more I listened in. And then I remembered the whole "The Mousetrap" play in Hamlet and it got me thinking. A short summary for those who don't know/remember: The Mousetrap is a "play-within-a-play" in Hamlet. Hamlet stages a theatrical performance of this play which he uses to expose his uncle Claudius's guilt for murdering his (as in, Hamlet's) father. The play re-enacts the king's murder in order to "catch the conscience of the king". Shakespeare adopted the play-within-a-play device for many of his other plays as well, including A Midsummer Night's Dream and Love's Labours Lost and The Taming of the Shrew, according to wiki (sorry, I am no Shakespeare expert so I need to research). I don't know about you, but that make me think of the whole "The Crowd Is Your King" phrase that Taylor has been using this era. Additionally, in interviews with Jimmy Fallon and Zane Lowe, Taylor has spoken about how she sees one of the main jobs of an entertainer to be a mirror to people. "You look into the art and see yourself back". Moreover, the shiny, glittery aspect of this era does have that mirrorball effect to it. In the Zane Lowe interview, when asked about how she chooses to deal with the reaction to her album release, part of what she said was- "I know what I made. I know I adore it. And I know that, on the theme of what "the showgirl" is, ALL of this is part of it." So essentially, we become part of the play, or more appropriately in this case, the show.
