After my divorce, I had to basically start over from scratch. My mom and I were able to furnish my apartment for about $500 with the furniture I needed (not counting couch and mattress) from IKEA. So, TO ME, this is crazy pricing for one piece.

I'm just saying as someone who owns a lot of IKEA furniture, they're crazy for this price. And I'm willing to bet something similar to this from them, same quality, still would've been at least $200 less a few years ago. There's no reason it should cost that much. None.

Doesn't negate the fact that IKEA has gotten away from what has been their draw for decades- affordability. My whole original point was that it is no longer affordable for what it is, which is cheaply made furniture that falls apart.

Almost the same exact piece on Amazon for half that price. This is more reasonable imo and I'm willing to bet the quality is exactly the same.

As someone who owns a lot of IKEA furniture, not this much. I'd say half that price. All of my stuff is literally falling apart. If it was quality, I'd be fine paying more for it. I literally just saw this same exact piece on Amazon for much less and with free shipping.

$400 might be a bit of an exaggeration on my part for a plain bookcase, but they're definitely charging that much for some of their display cabinets and hutches, which is still insane to me, considering their stuff is basically particle board held together with toothpicks and hope.

Like, I'm sorry, but they are insane. The whole draw of IKEA furniture is that it's supposed to be the more affordable option
