Not remotely surprised by the #HockeyCanadaTrial verdict. Should we just get it over with and codify this institutionalized himpathy so the law simply reads, “Whatever privileged white men want, you sweet baby angels”?

It’s also unhinged how the defence has co-opted the language of feminism to say that there is something sexist about idea that E.M. couldn’t realistically have consented. McLeod invited 18 men into that room. To suggest she consented, sight unseen, to sex with anyone who showed up beggars belief.

This is the Ghomeshi trial inverted: the fact that the accused and their friends are all telling the same story is presented as corroboration; at the Ghomeshi trial, the similar complainants’ testimonies were discredited as “collusion”. They’ll walk. #testimonialinjustice

Don’t believe Poilievre for a second when he says he won’t go after abortion. The Conservative party, including Poilievre, has a history of supporting forced birth bills. Don’t forget there was a time when Trump pretended to be pro-choice, too. #neverpoilievre

He also voted for Bill C-311 and Bill C-225, and supported Motion 312, all of which were Conservative efforts to smuggle fetal personhood into the Criminal Code, and opposed $10 a day childcare. Abortion access and affordable childcare are essential to any national plan to reduce domestic violence.

At least the case is being retried. It’s time we started regarding himpathy as a social emergency on par with any other pandemic. Also, this should end this guy’s medical career regardless of the sentence—who the hell would want Belgian Brock Turner as her gynaecologist?

Until we address the absolute travesty of 250 million women lacking access to birth control, I don’t want to hear any more speculation about how the wealth disparity between men and women is a result of women’s choices or “natural” abilities.

Any talk of women’s so-called “biological clocks” is actually a forced birther dog whistle. Poilievre has an anti-choice voting record. Don’t be fooled when he says a Conservative government would not use the notwithstanding clause against abortion. #neverpoilievre

Rosenbluth quotes a health official in Seminole who said, seemingly without irony, “This is Texas; people have the right to do what they want with their bodies.”
A measles outbreak continues to spread in Texas. More than 200 people have been infected, one child has died — and experts fear that low vaccination rates will make the illness harder to contain.

Let’s not forget that Poilievre, too, would be thrilled to turn women into disenfranchised incubators. R v Morgentaler is younger than Roe v. Wade (hell, it’s younger than me). Spousal rape was legal in the US until 1993. It was legal in Canada until 1983. It could all happen here. #neverpoilievre
The rumors are true: The proposed SAVE Act, now considered a priority for Republicans in the House, will make it harder, if not practically impossible, for millions of women to vote.
