one of my favorite shows was Chris Knox playing with Jeff Mangum at the 40 Watt in 1997. Chris played with a headset mic and must have gotten hot because during midsong banter he nonchalantly took his pants off and played the rest in what looked like gym shorts.

I said I'd write a few words about Craig Robertson's much-anticipated Chris Knox bio, which I love.

These are personal reflections on what will likely be the definitive history of a man who changed indie/alt music globally

'Cause, when it all comes down to dust
Can I say that Craig Robertson's bio of Chris Knox is anticipated? It is, and it's arrived.

David Herkt says, "Here's a deep-dive into the past of Auckland City....Mojo's nightclub on Queen Street was one of NZ's great transvestite shows in the early 1970s. The links below the story are also revealing, especially the youtube one with interviews."

From the beginning of the 1970s, at 348 Queen Street in Auckland, there was an unmissable sign. It read “Mojo’s Nitespot”. It would eventually become the frontage of New Zealand’s first, largest, and ...

Oh SHIT. Two birds with one stone and neither were for immigration. It was to hassle black folk and make a sizzle real about it and to help Wells Fargo out.

Fucking crazy shit.

Absolutely, Andrew. If I mention Chris' name anywhere in the world to someone passionate about music it's instantly recognised, often with some knowledge too.

Cheers Jim. Hope yer well.

A wonderful new story: David Herkt's history of Auckland club Mojo's, home to NZ's first transsexual show, thanks to Hugh Lynn, Jacqui Grant and Niccole Duval. One performance piece was based on Neil Diamond's Jonathan Livingstone Seagull... 1/2 www.audioculture.co.nz/articles/moj...

A significant age reached. I rarely drink wine these days but B smoothed the way with these three over the past few days. I feel a mix of blessed, pampered and very foggy headed.

Glimpsed while Winston exposed Aotearoa to international shame and condemnation, MFAT officials looking glum, with one sporting a Flying Nun sticker on their laptop.
A photo of seven New Zealand diplomats sitting in the hall of the UN General Assembly, sullenly listening to their Minister metaphorically soil the nation’s pants on the world stage. On the left is a silver laptop with a Flying Nun record label sticker on the back.

President Trump's aid cuts are disproportionately hitting women and girls: forcing them to drop out of school or leading them to die in childbirth or perish from cervical cancer, or to marry as young teens. That's what I found in the field: www.nytimes.com/2025/09/27/o...
