I think about 1985. At the Law Bodleian probably. I remember being told that a transatlantic phone call was carrying the data, making it prohibitively expensive to run. It certainly wasn't in use there: this was just a demo.

I remember seeing a demo of Lexis when I was a student. I think the Oxford Uni law department put it on, with Colin Tapper, an early adopter of IT solutions, organising it. I'm fairly sure that there was access to Law Reports, the AER, I think.
