Posting into the void!
Turns out the MMC is actually 24, still, I'm impressed he's not a 35 yr old professor or 1500 year old magical being. Also so far it's not too YA which is good, more like an AO3 fanfic style thing. It's light and enjoyable enough (City of Gods and Monsters).

That said I do think it's pretty tragic what happened to Nix :(

They certainly glossed over it pretty quickly 🧐

It's nonsense. He HAD the ball and it was taken out of his hands after he'd already hit the ground while holding it. That's not lack of control, but whatever (I wanted them to win haha) 🙄

I was just thinking about how that turnover was total bullshit
January 18, 2026 at 10:19 PM
Uhg I just now saw that this is categorized as "New Adult" which is just another way of saying "YA but we're lying about it." This book is somewhat popular though so whatever we'll see how it goes ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Should've thrown some tofu on there!

I thought the thing about the secondary FMC seeing literal ghosts was kind of 😬. It made sense as a metaphor with her PTSD, but not as a literal supernatural phenomenon dropped into the middle of an otherwise ordinary, crime of the week network series style story. I'd give this 3 out of 5 stars.

Something that occurred to me today about why this book is odd, is that there really isn't anything romantic OR satisfying that happens in the story. Everyone is terrible to one another, there's a nearly non-existent level of character dev, and no real pay-off to anything that happens. Anyway ...

Got his ass! Also this is like the equivalent of dogs peeing on a bush as a message then checking on it the next day haha

You wrote that didn't you

I keep forgetting that I read this as an ebook and so the printed page count is actually 800. It's still way too fucking long though.

😬

Actually I should say, the FMC really hates the MMCs and they seem indifferent about her, but they are all being forced together. I'm sure whenever the next book arrives I'll check it out but it's not something I'll be anxiously waiting for considering I almost DNF'd this one three times.

So maybe it's more negative, bc at the end of this book I didn't have strong feelings about any of these characters except that I'm interested in the mystery that's been presented at the end and I liked that they all kind of hated each other while being forced into attraction.
January 13, 2026 at 9:44 PM
Maybe this is neutral but I didn't find the MMCs to really be that attractive or unattractive. They were just there helping to facilitate nearly two chapter long sex scenes or for the FMC to refer to them as The Conqueror and The Butcher.

The bad: lots of typos and undecipherable sentences which were either from bad grammar or missing punctuation. Tons of repetitive words and phrases that were a little cringe (when this woman wasn't just saying "uh" or "what?" as her response to everything she was "yelping" "mewling" or "gaping").
January 13, 2026 at 9:40 PM
The neutral: the FMC was an incredibly average adult woman, no special skills, billed as plus sized with unrelated health issues. This was 1240 pages of a plot that could've easily been done in half that, or at least closer to 800.

Lol YES I think of that most of the time I see him (and also marvel at the fact that Shaileen Woodley was so into him)
January 13, 2026 at 8:45 PM
I can see that
January 13, 2026 at 5:19 PM
"this could be the last time you see him play"
January 13, 2026 at 3:01 PM
😂 btw why does Aaron Rodgers always look like he's having flashbacks of the war?
