A photo taken underground in an ice cave. The dominant feature is a large complex of white, semi translucent ice stalagmites formed by freezing dripping water from the ceiling. They form a roughly cone shaped area in the lower center of the picture, narrowing toward the center of the image. One set of stalagmite/stalagtite have met and fused into a column between the floor and ceiling. The upper half of the image is all dark brownish green lava stone with a coating of ice. I am reaching out one arm at center right toward the ice, and touching the top of a formation with one finger. I'm wearing a bright orange coat and a hat. I have a full white beard, and I'm facing the center of the image while looking slightly downward at the formation I'm touching.

FINALLY got to see the #Moon!
I honestly stop counting the days that I have NOT seen it.
But it was a pleasure to get a short look before it set into clouds low on the horizon tonight here.

I saw one similar to that in that it appeared to be glowing a soft blue color. Under tree cover, on the Oregon coast. Up close photographically it doesn't really show what I saw by eye from a short distance. I caught my eye right away.
A small capped mushroom close up. The cap is convex and tilted to the upper left. The gills under the cap are visible. The mushroom is overall white, with some light orange highlights on the gills. The stem of the mushroom raises it above the ground about as far as the cap is wide. The ground under the mushroom is carpeted with soft moss and sparse brown pine needles here and there. The moss and pine needles continue into the out of focus background.

For this #WaterfallWednesday in revisiting June Lake Falls at #MtStHelens! From the best vantage, the waterfall doesn't feature very strongly, but it's 74 feet tall (22+m)!
So here it is prominently featured with the lake below. 😁

Just a spot of late Fall color along The #Deschutes river where it meets the #ColumbiaRiver in #Oregon.
I thought these might be fitting due to the pervasive grey conditions here lately. No idea what they are, but they are #flowers! Splashes of color in a drab #scape.

The flowers are a rough bell shape, with very pale pink petals, and small red stripes down the petals. The colors reminded me a bit of a candy cane. The remainder of the scene is a tangle of green background grasses, and dried tan stems of other taller grasses sparsely criss crossing the image.

For some reason I was thinking back to the #landscape of the #Moab area.
Here's a well known area looking toward the #LaSalMountains.
I was on my way to Dead Horse and #Canyonlands that day, and stopped here to soak it up.

This little one, along with all the other insects we saw that day #hiking, were all moving slowly due to the chilly temperatures. Hopefully it dug itself a little den in the dirt.
A photo of a "Jerusalem cricket". These are not crickets, but that is one of their common names. The photo shows a small area of grass and small green plants on stall brown soil, sparsely criss crossed by light tan bits of longer grasses. In the center of the image is the insect, facing toward the top of the image. It has six chubby, segmented legs of an orange color. Three on each side of the body. It's abdomen is as long as it's back legs, looks a bit rotund, and has dark segmented rings around it's length, that are shiny. It's central body, or thorax, is where it's legs all attach, and is a dark orange color. It's head is the same dark orange color as the thorax, with one of it's small black eyes visible on the right side of the head. Just above it's right eye, one of it's two antennas begins. Both antennas are visible, and are a light tan color, and are long and delicate looking. It's colors make it contrast strongly against the green of the small plants it is laying across.

Fall can really be a season of confusion at times.
This single bright flower was the only one of it's kind I saw.
Everything else, except the tough low grasses, was well on it's way to being dormant, or dead for the rest of the year.

This view was pointed out to me on last weekend's hike, and I loved it because the wind turbines looked much more massive than the pylons by a bit of forced perspective. And they are huge!

A landscape photo of alternating layers of ridges, and cloud banks. The nearest ridge is covered in tan colored late Fall season grasses, and a few outcrops of exposed rock horizontally near the lower part of the image. Just over the top edge of the near ridge are four tall power pylons carrying power lines that run across the center of the image. They are contrasted by a low bank of white cloud behind them, that also runs across the center of the image. Beyond and above the near ridge and the low cloud banks is a further, taller ridge of distant mountainside that is darker, but also appears to be covered in low grasses and some rock outcrops that are darker still. Similarly, this distant mountainside also has six giant three bladed, white wind turbines just over it's crest. They appear to be facing right. Beyond them, the sky at the top of the image is clouded by darker mottled clouds.

Grief is a funny shaped thing.
This is a stuffed toy my grandmother sewed for me when I was a child. My mother found it years later, and saw that it was torn in spots, then mended it and gave it to me again.
I recall the torn areas because I discovered the stuffing grandmother used was... 1/ 🧵
A plaid print, hand sewn child's toy. Mine. It is the character Eeyore the donkey from Winnie the Pooh. The plaid is a blue and orange bold bands, with dark stripes. The same color scheme is repeated on the facial features, with orange eyes and blue pupils, orange nostrils, and an orange mouth. It has long floppy ears, a scruffy blue mane, and a buttoned on tail with a blue tuft at the end. It sits on a green and white woven blanket, with another red and blue patterned blanket beside it. The background is white. The toy is facing left in profile. It was originally sewn by my grandmother, and mended by my mother.

A two tier waterfall drops from upper right, runs partly hidden diagonally for a short distance, then drops again at lower left. The cliff rocks it runs through are mostly hidden by green mosses, vegetarian and small conifer trees. The waterfall is not in direct light. A small tree's branches at far left is in full sun.

About 6 hours ago, we stopped at this vista of the #DeschutesRiver meeting the #ColumbiaRiver from the #Oregon side, with the massive mountains of Eastern #Washington rising high above the scene.

A photo from a high vantage point overlooking the meeting of two great rivers. From lower far left a river makes a broad curve toward the right and then back to the left near the middle of the image, where it meets another river that flows from behind a large tan colored, steep bluff, then across the middle of the image off to the far left. Both banks of the curved river are lined with the tan terrain of late Fall season grasses, and closer to the water, dotted with trees. More trees are visible where the two rivers meet, along with multicolored train cars passing over a bridge at the mouth of the curved river. Mimicking the curve of the upward flowing river to it's left, is a dark line of a railroad grade. On the right side, there is a fainter trace of an old railbed turned into a recreational path. The flanks of the bluffs above on both sides of the river show creases where seasonal streams flow down. The bluff high to the right side of the curved river has horizontal rocky outcrops near it's top, and high tension power pylons sitting at it's very top. Across the horizontal river at the middle stands a tall mountainside in the distance, with a level shelf above the river nearer the mountain's base. Above that is a sinuous band of continuous white cloud horizontal across the entire image, hugging the mountain's middle. Above the cloud layer are the lofty, gently curved tops and ridges of the big mountain side. Most of the mountainsides and bluff are lacking trees, as is typical on the Eastern territories in Oregon and Washington, East of the Cascade Mountains. The sky above the far mountain is overcast, and fairly featureless. The colors overall are muted by the dimmer light getting through the heavy overcast sky, and the late Fall season. The rivers have a leaden blueish cast, as does the big far mountain. The nearer bluffs are largely muted golds, with hints of green.

Several more strips of left to right mud flats and alternating waterways cross the lower half of the image, until reaching a grassy shore of dark to light tan colored grass, with a large clump of dense evergreen trees to the right. More grasses and trees alternate beyond for a bit before distant rocky cliffs rise abruptly in the far distance, topped by evergreen forest toward the top of the image, with a sliver of blue sky visible from center top to the left. The far cliffs and forest are part of Oregon's Cape Lookout, that juts out into the Pacific Ocean.

This massive cloud cap couldn't hide all of #MountShasta, but the upper elevations over 10,000 feet were shrouded.

Waterfall vs. Fall!
This past Sunday was glorious in the Columbia River Gorge. Tons of people out soaking in the light & colors before the rain closed in again!
Great to see to good news this morning!
