The Great Red Spot is not turned toward us in this image. But there are three of Jupiter's large moons in this image. Next to Jupiter and on it's left is the moon Europa. Then just to the right of center is it's moon Io. And further to the right side in the center right is it's huge moon Ganymede, the largest moon in the solar system. The moon Callisto is out of frame far too the left. The rest of the background of black due to contrast.

Guess what? This has never been about safety or immigration. It’s a pretext for Trump to take over elections in swing states.

Hiking around Mt Thielsen in #SouthernOregon was a world of contrasts. Healthy alpine environment vs recent intense forest fire. The burnt trees were glossy black!

I was futzing around outside after sundown, quickly trying to get something done before it got colder. Then I noticed some light through the trees, and it was the crescent Moon!
I caught my breath, it nearly always makes me do that when I haven't seen it in a stretch.

🚨HOLY CRAP. An ICE whistleblower just revealed a secret memo authorizing ICE officers to break into homes without a judicial warrant, which DHS's own legal training materials say is unconstitutional!

ICE then hid the memo from the public, passing it along by word of mouth and private conversation.

This line graph illustrates the percentage change in agency staff levels from the previous year for nine major U.S. federal scientific and health organizations between the fiscal years 2016 and 2025. The agencies tracked include the CDC, Department of Energy, EPA, FDA, NASA, NIH, NIST, NOAA, and NSF. For the majority of the timeline between 2016 and 2023, the agencies show relatively stable fluctuations, generally staying within a range of +5% to -5% change per year. However, there is a dramatic and uniform plummet starting in the 2024–25 period. Every agency depicted shows a sharp downward trajectory, with staffing losses ranging from approximately -15% to over -25%. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) shows the most significant decline, dropping to roughly -26%, while the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) shows the least severe but still substantial drop at approximately -15%.
