See, it's interesting: the alt-right trucker convoy occupied my city a few years back, and those fuckers were honking their shitty trucks 24/7 with the explicit goal of making sure no one who lived in the area could sleep or function normally. Buck didn't seem to think it was a problem then.

I don't think finding people was as much of a problem as a lack of willingness to actually prosecute them. Then and now.

Consider that some people don't want to get or spread COVID. You know, the thing that's still disabling and killing people every day, and is quite easily acquired in a dense crowd.

The ID barrier is a bonus.

Because brown shirts were too on the nose.

Also in the suburbs. The fuck are these idiots trying to blend in with, the vinyl siding???

It's so embarrassingly LARPy.

(I don't think you were doing that, to be clear, but I see it a little bit in the comments here. I get the reaction! But I do think the businesses speaking out about this are doing good.)

Tbh while it's easy to be dismissive of the businesses complaining (especially with that headline), I think this kind of article is exactly what we want -- it bolsters the effectiveness of the boycott, and US business owners pointing out that Trump's policies hurt their own is great.

(It's not on right now because all of our windows are open and the CO2 is at 458 ppm... but sleeping with the bedroom window open isn't feasible with my house's layout, so I'll definitely need it at night.)

Haha, yeah, it's not a bad thing. There's also significantly fewer of us, tbf! But yeah, before I immigrated to Canada, I feel like I just sorted English-speakers into a "tourists, general" category unless told otherwise.

You, crashing through the wall to interrupt a conversation that didn't involve you: STOP TALKING TO ME 😡

Anyway, I'm nothing if not obliging. Enjoy your mute.

1. No one's changing the subject. Sutcliffe's involvement is topical.
2. I, personally, hijacked the parade? Interesting! Do you know something about my schedule that I don't?
3. Dudas doesn't like Sutcliffe? News to me.

From what I understand, Capital Pride withdrew their support statement for Palestine following pressure from the mayor of our city. Seems strange that you have so much to say about how marginalized groups ought to behave but have no censure for a privileged man wielding his power to silence others.

(Also, given the rate of domestic violence in Russia -- no, thank you on the legalized gun ownership. So many more women and children would end up dead.)
August 23, 2025 at 5:31 AM
The guns are not the difference. Russia's suppression of protests was and is brutal. A few guns won't make a difference against overwhelming state power, neither in Russia nor in the US.

I've never been to Columbia, but large campuses usually have private security who can remove and trespass people. I'm guessing that's who would get called to enforce these shitty policies. :/
