Bari Weiss is set to be named the editor in chief of CBS News, the New York Post reports

Paramount Skydance is poised to name Bari Weiss as editor in chief of CBS News in the coming days — giving the hard-charging journalist unusual clout to revamp the struggling network as it also acquires her scrappy news site the Free Press, The Post has learned.

Weiss — a 41-year-old former New York Times opinion writer who has built the Free Press into a buzzworthy site with a contrarian bent — is expected to be named to the top post in a Monday announcement, although the talks are in flux and the timing could change, a source close to the situation said.

Today, decades of declining ratings, deregulation & consolidation, and partisan attacks on the media have changed the calculus.

Trump is not the first president eager to have an ABC talk show host cancelled. Back in the early 1970s, Nixon was fuming over Dick Cavett, asking his aides "is there any way we can screw him?"

started rewatching The Sopranos for the first time since the original run and never really appreciated 1) how much of a middle-aged dad show it actually is, 2) how most everybody in the show is a fucking loser, and 3) how endlessly charming James Gandolfini was.

for what it's worth, when CBS News was accused of "deceptively editing" interviews in the 1970s Frank Stanton stood up for news department and even risked facing a jail cell for refusing a congressional subpoena.

New: CBS News has changed its interview format in reaction to complaints from DHS. According to a statement from a network spokesperson, Face The Nation will now only broadcast live or live to tape interviews

In response to audience feedback over the past week, we have implemented a new policy for greater transparency in our interviews. FACE THE NATION will now only broadcast live or live-to-tape interviews (subject to national security or legal restrictions). This extra measure means the television audience will see the full, unedited interview on CBS and we will continue our practice of posting full transcripts and the unedited video online.
