The mother does all the work of raising the daughter. The father sometimes shows up. The thank-yous are, "I want to thank my mom for.... ALL THE THINGS. And I thank my dad for showing up today."

Taking a break from retrofitting grab bars in the bathroom for a family member to remind people:

Most of us are only temporarily physically abled.

If you can:
Install a ramp + landing at your entrance.
Install grab bars where needed.
Install accessibility features in your kitchen.

Now the hospital case worker wants to discharge an almost 80-yr-old who is in sepsis, has afib, and is still super dehydrated. I hate this fucking timeline.

I hate this country’s healthcare system.

The Attending might talk to you by late afternoon, if you’re lucky. The nurse won’t answer questions, even when they know the answers, because they’re not authorized. There are three dozen people who might come in and out every 15 minutes for 76 seconds at a time. There’s minimal personal care.

The food is bland & dry, at best. Drinking while lying down and weak is difficult at best. Sleeping with a bunch of tubes and cables coming out of your arms and nose and other places is uncomfortable at best.

It’s ~impossible to recover when you can’t sleep and you can’t or don’t feel like you can eat or drink and there’s very little done by hospitals to facilitate or encourage replacing lost fluids and nutrients. And no, IV bags of saline aren't sufficient.

There are thousands of problems with the US for-profit healthcare system, not least is healthcare should never be a for-profit business in the first place. (I’ll block you if you argue this point).
A rant in several parts.+

What do people think of the #AAS #DPS bylaws amendments? I haven’t kept a close eye on these bylaws, so I’m uninformed.

This is why it is essential that we remain peaceful at all our protests, especially next week June 14 at our 1600 planned #NoKings rallies
Do not give these motherfuckers a reason to use violence against us

And there you have it. ICE didn't target migrant workers in Kristi Noem's farms or Sarah Huckabee Sanders' meatpacking plants because they wanted to create a riot in LA as a pretext to declaring martial law. They don't care about undocumented migrants, they only care about controlling US citizens.

Welcome to the “dry heat."

I think they care about money, but not about performing their contracted duties. They’ve routinely ignored regulations and gotten away with it, so I don’t think the power of regulations has had much impact on them.

I don’t understand the question.

I’ve been laughed at and yelled at multiple times because I’ve said we should never rely on companies that are so powerful that they don’t care if they lose their space exploration contracts.

So many. I’m thinking maybe we need a Maximum Overdrive / Trucks like event (probably spurred by AI rather than a comet) to finally push people into doing away with motorized travel for good.

Asked recently what I think would most improve food and housing accessibility in my city, I responded that we should dig up all of the parking lots and turn them into gardens and small grocery stores.

I work on housing in my community and one of the things we’ve been working to reform is the idiotic requirement of so many parking spaces per unit of housing. It’s inane.

I’ve seen some fantastic ideas out there on how to get rid of them, but I’m so defeated right now about progress… :(

I'm sitting, masked, in the airport. Almost nobody else is masked, of course. A lot of people are coughing, sneezing, etc.

Why is it socially acceptable to publicly, loudly cough, sneeze, otherwise spread your germs, but not socially acceptable to fart or burp, neither of which spreads illnesses?

In the future, I may not even use any abstracts hosted by them as “citations” in any work I do in the future. Nothing they have hosted is trustworthy anymore.

But I and probably others, have run out of steam, and we thought, stupidly, that they wouldn’t do a full data sweep. I’m not surprised. I mean, I am, but this behavior tracks.
otherorb.bsky.social
I (along with several other people) have been trying to do both. I have a large set of data for specific meeting that we knew were in trouble, but I didn’t think we needed to back up everything they’ve ever published. Apparently we do.
otherorb.bsky.social
Yeah. I’m so done with them.
otherorb.bsky.social
What's to stop them from changing the authorship on abstracts they wish they had written?

Whomever made this decision is a coward and should be shunned by the entire community.
