We need to have as many different perspectives as possible to understand our universe.

He/Him

My opinions are mine alone. I don't represent any entity or other person.
Guesstimating at the number of STEM and healthcare research employees who don't have PhDs and recognizing that there are usually many more non-PhD employees than PhD employees, I estimate that we've been set back about a million years in terms of research expertise and experience.

The Federal government lost around 106,636 years worth of direct experience by letting go approximately 10,000 employees with PhDs in STEM and Healthcare.

That doesn’t include the other ~290,000 people who for one reason or another left federal employment in 2025.

I want to say clearly:

LPI staff and scientists are NOT the problem. Let's not attack them. The problem is failure of leadership at USRA, and the decision of LPI leadership to delete abstracts without having a conversation with the community.

LPI staff and scientists did not make the decision.

I know of several Civil Servants who are on the Program already.

And, yeah, I seriously doubt the drop has anything to do with Civil Servants.

The problem with symbolic compliance isn’t just that they fall short of ending violence.

It’s also that people duped by the symbols will switch sides to defend the oppressor, emboldening them to become more violent and violate more civil rights than before.

I won't name the source: I just learned the numbers for AGU's Fall Meeting, which arguably had more issues with Civil Servants being unable to attend than LPSC would. It faced a 10% drop in attendance. LPSC is facing a 47% drop. It seems likely that the drop is strongly connected to the knee-bending
