Deeply unserious. Tech writer. Copy editor. PhD.
The astonishing thing about this book is that Carter Glass just went on being crotchety for way longer than I expected.

Since the regime couldn't buy Greenland or get Canada to be a part of the US, it's taken over Venezuela.
I definitely, absolutely, totally believe the regime will give it back and not treat it like a resource and super prison.
Remember when Congress wasn't quiet quitting their jobs?

The societal lie is that everyone with a PhD is intelligent. The reality is that most of us are just stubbornly, annoyingly persistent.
"Re books: books and literature are useful for information, but they aren't interactive and dialogic. They don't fulfil the same function that I'm referring to."

Skill issue.

Sometimes I think people who lament that a self-help book could have been 90% shorter have never read a self-help book. Welcome to the genre.

Well, that book hurt my feelings. That's not the sort of attack I expected, and I'll remain mortally wounded for the rest of the year.

A graduate teaching assistant is a student. A defined rubric, course outcomes, and their supervising professor are the protections against this stupidity. Get it the fuck together, Oklahoma.

I'm tired of job postings that want a candidate capable of producing "high-quality" content.
Well, count me out. I only write the worst trash imaginable. I actively ignore feedback, turn in work late, and eat other employees' food in the break room.

What's nice is predicting the dumb fuckery would continue and getting off that ride early. We'd be stuck in Green Bay tonight if we had a modicum of faith in that airline, but I believe people/things when they show me who/what they are. 🖕
@americanair.bsky.social Hey, so glad we're 1900 miles from home with a 19 month old and stranded in Chicago for two days, with us paying for a hotel. Actually the worst holiday experience.

There's always a barrier between you and history. Always. Even a "perfect" recreation or preserved artifact isn't directly accessible. You'll never experience those objects the way someone from that period did. So calm down.

One of the nice things about tech writing is you get to be obnoxiously curious. I ask all sorts of insane things. Tech writing is a team of high-functioning toddlers in the "why" phase.

Putting aside women on the right are morons, Johnson arguing with them about their experience under his "leadership" is peak not listening to women.
"We hate this."
"No you don't. You're fine."
Typical.

Stop capitalizing common nouns in sentences; it's weird, disruptive, and causes issues for specific groups of readers. 😐

Highlight of the last half of the year is trying to stop tone policing myself. It's rude.

When I taught a course on adaptation, the final project was to adapt an adaptation into a new medium. Most made board games. Some made food. Some comics.
We weren't spinning our wheels in the dredges, clinging to "the book was better." We did what all adaptation does: takes what it needs.

I have a hard time taking anyone seriously who writes "comprised of."
It's a snob's hill, but I'm not alone.

It's weird, on the professional site, that a lot of things have become fodder for engagement and attempts to gain status. A junior-level someone did something silly in an interview? Post. Someone wore, said, did something in the office? Post.
Can we not? It's gross.

Of the 86 Dems who voted to denounce "the horrors of socialism," tell me what you think that means and when you'll be opting out of socialist practices embedded in the society you live in because, you know, the horrors.
Each vote comes with its own pearl necklace and libertarian flag.

If we stop giving the Pedo of the US acknowledgment for every asinine thing barfed out of his mouth or fatly typed, will he turn to dust, starved of attention like any other useless, common narcissist?

If I were a cat, this would be a vacant box, challenging me to sit in it.
The first book in my series, Late Tudor and Stuart Drama: Readings in Feminist Theories and Histories, is out! Please, friends, spread the word about the book (ask your libraries to buy it) but also about the series. I'd love to read your manuscript! More info in my pinned post. #EarlyModern
