Also, this is the calm discussion. It only gets more agitated from here.
"Why can't we have a calm discussion about AI?"

Cuz the data centers are being built carelessly and at speed, polluting poor neighborhoods, cuz it's drinking my fucking aquifer, and cuz all my art and writing have been plagisrized while the worst assholes crow about my impending obsolescense...

Henry Cuellar should never hold elected office again. Anyway in the meantime, make your Senators scared of you.

Honestly even Republicans can be moved if they get enough calls. So make sure to do so. Especially make Democrats terrified of their voters if they don't vote no with a bullet on this one
NEW: House passes SAVE America Act

218-213; Rs + 1 Dem (Cuellar) vote yes.

Revised Trump-backed bill requires showing proof of citizenship "in person" to register and slaps photo ID rules to vote.

Now it goes to the Senate. No path to 60. THUNE promises a vote.

House passes SAVE America Act, sending Trump-backed election bill to the Senate
The legislation would overhaul federal election laws in all 50 states by imposing new voter ID and proof-of-citizenship requirements. But it faces a daunting path in the Senate.

I was at a club in Fukuoka, Japan about 20 years ago.

American military guy scooped up an unconscious Japanese girl who looked to be barely 20 and took her out of the place.

I got ahead of ‘em, stopped a cab, grabbed the girl from him, tossed her (and ¥10k) in and told the cabbie to get her home.
Here is my question to you about being metal.

What is the most METAL thing you ever did that did not involve you playing an instrument?

"Let's actually go to aldi, midweek, midmonth, midday so it won't be crowded and Kari won't die of the flu."

Lol pray for me.

"It'll be CHEAPER!"

Turns out aldi is only cheaper when you've been there recently and aren't like "omg i haven't had this in ages!" About EVERYTHING.

All of the above being similar for me might explain why I don't just regard this tech as ominous and a bad idea, but I'm also taking it PERSONALLY.

What I hear from llm boosters is "now that we have humanities robots it's finally over for you bitches but as a consolation, you can pretend to code."
This would get too long but yes, my life experiences in this arena are also exactly why I have very complex feelings about LLMs.

I did a partial payment today but I still need to take care of the rest of my back rent to keep my housing. It needs to be taken care of ASAP. You can also buy books in my digital shop to help!
January rent is past due and I also need some help to keep the lights on and pay me health insurance. Any amount helps and so do shares 💖

I got some wild ass news this morning.

On a whim, I applied to further my acting training and I got accepted to the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London for an advanced acting short-course. I’m still in shock about it, but I do need to raise funds for my time over there. I made a GFM—

A. Nonsense. There are doubtless billions of people whose names are not in the epstein files and large numbers of those could invent cool things, write cool books, or be competent senators.

B. Don't threaten me with a good time, tho.
“If all the names in the Epstein files are released then our entire system will collapse.”

Works for me.

Thread.

In addition: we are at 140 year old tech with fountain pens. Most of the innovations are incredibly far out of patent.
As with knitting patterns, 5 points of difference is sufficient, and it need not be drastic.
Boosting corporate interests never ends well. Diversity of manufacture does.
Ran across a post about duped fountain pen designs and how we shouldn't accept it, and I have complicated thoughts about that which would make a better thread than response so here goes.

The tldr tho is that dupes are a price we must pay for less litigation and no monopoly.

When a sitting representative refers to the Super Bowl halftime show as “pornography,” people should use that to reflect on how they and other representatives are simultaneously working to ban, censor, and restrict “pornography” and what that actually means

Hey can we bring back all those internet safety campaigns we had when I was a millennial teen? It is NOT my job to parent someone else's kids and have to submit my ID to places to sanitize the internet for some puritanical outrage about kids. Parents should be doing this themselves.

There is no way forward that preserves our republic without winning elections. Yes this means we have to win ones that they rig or subvert. To do that we have to overwhelm them so that their plans cannot work. We are already seeing gerrymandering backfire. It's entirely doable to overcome this
