Remind me one of these days to retell you all exactly how the pianist Marie Pleyel was so hot that all your composer faves (Liszt, Chopin, Berlioz, Robert Schumann) lost their absolute minds around her
Before I die we must move the Overton window of Symphonie Fantastique discourse from "kooky silly high man lololol" discourse to "horny stalker and potential serial killer" discourse, with a sprinkling of "Fuck, Marie Pleyel was hot" discourse

Robert Schumann quoted Clara Wieck’s melodies at least a dozen times in his compositions PRE-MARRIAGE. Boy was head over heels for her AND her music.

The sops look confused, the altos aren't looking anywhere near the music, the basses are bored, and while tenor 2 looks annoyed at having to sing so low, tenor 1 is gunning it.

Painting of the choir by Jan van Eyck (1432).

Janowitz two days ago, then Isokoski yesterday. I may as well complete a trio with this one. #NowSpinning Jessye Norman with Strauss’s Four Last Songs. What an astonishing, incredible trio of recordings. #classicalmusic

My annual reminder to everyone--especially the GRAMMYS--there's no opera without text. There's no text without the librettist.

There are 5 names missing from the listing for Best Opera Recording: Peter Sellars, Marcela Fuentes-Berain, Mark Campbell, Greg Pierce & Amin Maalouf.

I'm seeing a lot of "Invalid Handel" puns, so just to be different, here's Haydn in plain sight.

I love a floppy book. The pages stay where they are, no spines get cracked and it sits comfortably in your hand.

There, that’s my great insight shared for this week.

As you were.
