Momotarou is thought to be an early modern tale.
This is because it does not appear in the medieval collection of stories called Otogi-zoushi, and because it is strongly influenced by the five elements popular in the Edo period.
The metal element is particularly strong.

Absolutely, no good reason at all to destroy Nagato. But when you look at what happened to Mikasa after the war, you really have to wonder if Nagato could have gotten the protections she needed, or if she would have been stripped down as well.
