Friends of #PacificHistoryGuide and #Japan, would you rather see a blog post centered around Date Masumune 伊達 政宗 or Saigo Takamura 西郷 隆盛? There's so many great monuments, memorials and historic sites dedicated to these two men, and I'm having a hard time picking which to write about first.

I've been kicking around the idea of including Midway and French Frigate Shoals into the Hawaii page. Eventually I'd like to make a page for the 'U.S. Minor Outlying Islands' which includes Midway, Wake, Johnston, etc. I'll include French Frigate Shoals there. But I am not decided yet.

If you live or have live in #Hawaii on any of the islands, we want to hear from you! We're working on a section devoted to the Aloha State and looking for monuments, memorials, and out-of-the-way items of interest to add to the website. Let us know! #PacificHistoryGuide

Yesterday we marked the anniversary of the first seaborne air strikes in history, during the opening stages of the #FirstWorldWar. Why did Japan bomb German-held territories in China for Britain? Check out the #PacificHistoryGuide Blog for the story!

I don't want to write a piece that's lost in the noise. Suffice it to say that with the end of the #SecondWorldWar came also the death of the Japanese Empire, aged but 77 years. Its corpse remained for two years, but its spirit never left the weatherdeck of the Missouri, 80 years ago today.
